"Cultural refs" inappropriate
[edit]I'm removing the Moby Dick quotation. Not really germane, and not appropriate in an article about a technical material. Wegesrand (talk) 08:09, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]This page would benefit from some information about pronunciation. The wiktionary page is currently inadequate, lacking British pronunciation. If someone could fix that, we could link to it from here (I don't understand the conventions in that wiki when there are multiple etymologies and corresponding differences in pronunciation). [edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just modified one external link on Tow. Please take a moment to review my edit. If you have any questions, or need the bot to ignore the links, or the page altogether, please visit this simple FaQ for additional information. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/web/20070915135150/http://www.chaddsfordhistory.org:80/history/glossary.htm to http://www.chaddsfordhistory.org/history/glossary.htm
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}

Tow description by number of fibers
[edit]In the area of (carbon) composite materials tows are described by the number of filaments (fibres) they contain. E.g. 12k rovings contain 12,000 filaments. I know this from personal experience as a engineer in the area of composites. Sources are now referenced in the article.
Since it is my first edit, I hope its ok the way I did it. Otherwise, I would be thankfull for hints and/or corrections. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel Teufl (talk • contribs) 09:34, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding those sources! I did some minor cleanup of them and removed two of the links: the first HexTow link (it didn't directly support the preceding statement) and the SIGRAFIL link (Although the table distinguishes different products using either tex or number of filaments, it doesn't explicitly refer to them by those characteristics. The pdf download on that page (https://www.sglcarbon.com/pdf/SGL-Brochure-The-Enablers-EN.pdf) does equate "k" to "1000", but not as explicitly as the other references).
- I also added some published book references that directly define the content of the page (non-promotional sources are best! see: WP:IS).
