Wikipedia is not a strategy guide or instruction manual. Wikipedia articles should focus on the games themselves, not on how to play them; they should not contain tips, tricks, or cheat codes. Too much about sequels?

N64 title difference?
[edit]On my (PAL) copy of the N64 version, it's called "Tony Hawk's Skateboarding". I always wondered why it was different. Does anybody know? Is it just a PAL thing??? :S 59.167.37.219 10:06, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- It's just a PAL thing. Perhaps Europe didn't have any/many professional skateboarders at the time and it thus would have seemed strange to play a game about them, so they made the game seem more casual? Just a guess.--SeizureDog 10:17, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
GBC Version
[edit]There IS grinding. You ollie up and slide on an edge of a grindable thing. So Im going to go ahead and remove "griding was removed" or whatever in the Game Boy version description. James W. Enderson (talk) 13:04, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit]THPS is a hugely famous PlayStation game. The image needs to be of the original PS version. 86.129.25.33 (talk) 22:32, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
This is a valid point (as the PlayStation version was the original), so I changed it. I'll try to upload a better and cleaner version later, sorry for the newb mistake. :( SamuraiFez (talk) 11:50, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Never mind, that was Tony Hawk 2. I checked Youtube and Playmagazine —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.99.28.223 (talk) 01:16, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Is there a reason Why the soundtrack list was removed in the first place?. The few times i saw it i found it to be very accurate.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Magicianbink (talk • contribs) 23:22, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
I made some edits to some possible vandalism, luckily i have back ups of the original soundtrack lists for the first four games bring it on —Preceding unsigned comment added by Magicianbink (talk • contribs) 06:16, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
Sound Track
[edit]Skateboarding and music go hand in hand. Anyone who has seen any skate video or any extreme sports video can tell you that they set all the action to excellent music (debatable), and the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games and a few other games (Matt Hoffman's pro BMX, etc.) capture the visual and aural aesthetic. I agree that just adding the list is a little dull and can make the article seem oddly edited,
so i propose that I should add some notes/blurbs (starting with the first game), to not only convey the points I've made here, but to also give the articles some form of cohesiveness. looking forward to any feedback Magicianbink (talk) 07:17, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Soundtrack
[edit]I removed the soundtrack category per WP:V. Unlike in the articles for the next games in the series, there are no sources for any of the info. The soundtrack section on the [Tony_Hawk's_Pro_Skater_4|Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4] article is a good example of what to go for as far as sources. Although there's still problems with undue weight, it may be enough. Eik Corell (talk) 21:54, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Resident Evil Engine
[edit]I cannot believe the statement, that THPS uses an advanced form of the resdient evil engine. THPS uses the Apocalypse (video game) engine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.28.249.21 (talk) 05:31, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Release Date
[edit]The article lists the initial release for PlayStation as, NA, August 31, 1999.
However, later in the article, it cites a gamespot article (from August 26) which announces the final release date as September 29.
(Note: gamespot has a broken article date now, but it was still correct in wayback machine)
There's lots of discrepancies:
- If the game came out in August, shouldn't gamespot have known this (only 5 days before release)?
- IGN also mentioned Activision preparing pre-order goodies in September - so an August release date doesn't make sense.
- Also note the lack of reviews of the game, before October.
So I think we should consider possible dates:
- 31 August 1999 (many websites pick this, but it's unlikely)
- 28 September 1999 (psxdatacenter, only source I can find)
- 29 September 1999 (MobyGames / IGN / Gamespot)
- 30 September 1999 (giantbomb wiki, only source I can find)
I believe 29 September 1999 is the correct date, with pre-order phase ending on the 28th. Those are the most reputable sources, and it just makes the most sense.

Addition to the above: Tony Hawk himself claims (..in 2019) it is August 31; https://mobile.twitter.com/tonyhawk/status/1167861305316765696 - however that is probably not a reliable source. I assume he used Wikipedia or some other platform as a bad source when posting it. Also, someone reverted my change ("September 29") to the August 31 date, without consulting the talk page; I've changed it back and cited 2 existing sources for the September 29 date.
2003:E7:9F06:5000:F0EE:8ABF:D88D:CA46 (talk) 18:30, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm convinced the game wasn't released in August. This source essentially triple-confirms that the game was released in September: 1. It lists the release date as
September 29
. 2. It was written in September 1999, after the alleged August release date. 3. It talks about a September pre-order promotion. Then this second source seals the deal. And here's even more confirmation: an archived review from PSX.ign.com listing the release date asSeptember 1999
