This is two different games?
[edit]It appears to me that the 2008 Xbox Live Arcade game (by Next Level games) is unrelated to the game developed by Days of Wonder. These two should not share an article. 162 etc. (talk) 15:01, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- @162 etc. (talk) - I agree that general discussion on the mechanics of the game, should be handled by the article on the physical version of the game, i.e. “Ticket to Ride (board game)”. I also feel that this “Ticket to Ride (video game)” article is ill-defined. This might have resulted from when it was written, as there was only one 'video game' of Ticket of Ride at that stage, and now there are multiple. Is this an article on the Xbox version, or does it have a wider scope? What does the loose term 'video game' even mean? I think that the title of the article needs to be changed to narrow it, so as to only include "Ticket to Ride - Xbox"; or widened it to encompass all electronic versions of Ticket to Ride. For the proposed redesign of the article, please see my related discussion in the thread below entitled "Radical Article Redesign (2024)" SMargan (talk) 03:57, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
Radical Article Redesign (2024)
[edit]I am uncertain as to what type of information this “Ticket to Ride (video game)” article was originally designed to include. The article is entitled “Ticket to Ride (video game)”, but as the above "This is two different games?" discussion thread discusses, the exact nature of the article is ill-defined. The fact that the “Ticket to Ride (video game)” article was created in 2008, might explain why it mostly contains information about the Xbox version, as that was the only electronic version of the game at that stage. However, since the year that this “Ticket to Ride (video game)” article was written (2008), the Ticket to Ride game franchise has expanded into many platforms in the electronic format, which could also be classed as video games. In addition, this “Ticket to Ride (video game)” article has developed slowly, whilst the "Electronic Versions" section of the “Ticket to Ride (board game)” article, which discusses the numerous video games of Ticket to Ride now available, has developed with a steadier pace, resulting in this “Ticket to Ride (video game)” article being less informative.
With that in mind, I am radically redesigning the article to cover all electronic versions of the game. This will involve:
-
1) Migrating all the existing information contained in the "Electronic Versions" section of the ‘Ticket to Ride (board game)” article, including all the parallel information on the Xbox version, to this “Ticket to Ride (video game)” article. This content is being combined with the meager content already existing in this “Ticket to Ride (video game)” article;
2) Removing the duplicate content of the rules of the physical game in this “Ticket to Ride (video game)” article, which is amply covered in the "Gameplay" section of the "Ticket to Ride (board game)” article, an article explicitly written for the physical game;
I release that this radical transformation of the article might need consultation. Therefore, I have started this discussion thread to promote debate. Feel free to discuss these foreshadowed changes. Constructive commentary is always appreciated. I will wait a week (deadline: 12 July 2024) before implementing the redrafting.SMargan (talk) 03:57, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- The original deadline for feedback has passed. However, considering this is such a major reworking to this "Ticket to Ride (video game)" Wikipedia article, and no positive or negative feedback has been received to date, I have set a new secondary deadline for feedback, i.e. the end of this month (31 July 2024). Please supply all feedback by that deadline date.SMargan (talk) 23:31, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
