Did You Know A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on August 24, 2019.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that unlike The 1975's previous eponymous songs, all of which use the same set of lyrics, their fourth eponymous song is a spoken-word protest about climate change by Greta Thunberg (pictured)?

Single or song?

[edit]

There seems to be a bit of a conflict between a number of sources about whether this is a song or a single. For example, Spin, The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph all call it the band's new "single", although Rolling Stone says that it is "the first taste of Notes on a Conditional Form, but not the first single." What do we do in this situation? mike•owen discuss 12:30, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's a good question. I don't know the answer—should we perhaps ask at WP:WPMU? — Bilorv (// W A K E U P //) 15:52, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Bilorv: That's a great idea, I'll ask at WT:SONGS. mike•owen discuss 11:24, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thunberg image

[edit]

Just as a clarification: I took the image of Thunberg at a Fridays for Future event in Berlin. While musicians where performing at that event, Thunberg did not sing anything at the event, even if it looks like that on the image. I also made 2 videos at the event with Thunberg speaking to the audience. --C.Suthorn (talk) 22:18, 4 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

She's not singing in "The 1975" either – it's spoken word. I chose the picture just because I thought it looked good. — Bilorv (talk) 06:45, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it was only for clarification. Another remark: the audio in the article is fair use. May be the free video files of Thunberg contain the same words? --C.Suthorn (talk) 13:14, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I considered this, but the ambient music by The 1975 is an important part of the song and this is inherently non-free. — Bilorv (talk) 15:32, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Promotional single or just song?

[edit]

Wouldn’t this technically be considered a “promotional single” since it wasn’t announced as an official single and it’s been released before the rest album will be released? If not, can I get an explanation as to why? Thank you. Goldfeathermil (talk) 16:20, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This has been discussed in the section above and here. Sources are conflicted on what the song is. Your reasoning makes sense but I'm not an expert in the subject and I don't know if we could say that without supporting sources. — Bilorv (talk) 18:08, 13 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
