Genetic manipulation in Rorqual Maru (1972) Galaxy, Volume 32 No.4
[edit]In: Rorqual Maru (1971, UPD Publishing Corp. / Galaxy, Volume 32 No.4)
Any geneticists out there?
-How accurately does Bass use technical terms and procedures in his descriptions of genetic engineering?
-If accurate, was it the latest available info in 1971? Did he make any really good guesses?
-A brief discussion of the history of this field as imagined/used/anticipated in SF would be interesting
(under topic: Science Fiction ?) I'll bet a bunch of us have our favorites; like RAH's Jerry Was A Man
(Thrilling Wonder Stories, October 1947 & Assignment in Eternity, Signet, 1953)) or Varley's Uplift novels.
(Text of Rorqual Maru also avlbe in: 1973 ANNUAL WORLD'S BEST SF (₢ 1973 & Ed. Donald Wollheim) pp 155-191.) L8r, Latrans 20:14, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved. General support to move per nomination as not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Also, there are more support to create a disambiguation page over a hatnote per WP:ONEOTHER. (closed by non-admin page mover) Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 09:19, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
T. J. Bass → T. J. Bass (author) – not WP:PRIMARYTOPIC per page views Joeykai (talk) 00:08, 20 September 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 09:16, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support – the pageviews for T. J. Bass (7/day) and T. J. Bass (American football) (52/day) have nearly an order of magnitude difference. Given that there are only two articles, I'd support moving T. J. Bass (American football) to T. J. Bass with a hatnote (WP:ONEOTHER), rather than creating a disambiguation page. jlwoodwa (talk) 17:41, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:07, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nomination, jlwoodwa and Crouch, Swale, paired with creation of a T. J. Bass disambiguation page that would list T. J. Bass (author) as well as T. J. Bass (American football). —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 23:52, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Roman Spinner: I'm not strongly opposed, but why do you think a disambiguation page is better than a hatnote here? jlwoodwa (talk) 23:59, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Jlwoodwa: I'm not strongly opposed either, but tend to expect a very high order of magnitude for WP:ONEOTHER primary topic, such as 100:1. If consensus ultimately skews towards a primary topic swap, that will be an equally acceptable outcome. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 00:14, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

- Support per nom and create dabpage at basename. No primary topic per long-term significance. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:41, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
