Really necessary?
[edit]Why does the Mario theme need an entire article to itself? The substance of the information provided can easily be condensed into a couple of paragraphs and put on Koji Kondo's page. Anything that doesn't fit in there can be put onto the Super Mario Bros. article under the Music heading. But, the "Other Media" and "Concerts and Performances" stuff just seems superfluous -- filler material to make the article long enough to justify its existence. 98.16.171.68 (talk) 07:39, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- 98 dude, this song is the theme to my life. From the opening riff, to the vamp itself -this is what life is about. Maybe you've been in the underworld too long. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.81.197 (talk) 04:30, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
- The song is probably more famous than even Koji Kondo himself. 67.110.219.227 (talk) 06:11, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
I agree, they either need to say more about him, or find better information to fill in the article because most of it is garbage. Rsg20 (talk) 22:29, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Overworld Theme
[edit]Correct me if I'm wrong here, but doesn't Overworld Theme usually refer to the Legend of Zelda theme?--124.180.45.189 (talk) 09:56, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- You are half right and half wrong. Yes, the Overworld Theme can definitely refer to The Legend of Zelda theme; however, the reasoning behind this is because many games have "Overworlds" with a theme associated with them. So to say that the Overworld Theme refers to the TLOZ exclusively would be inaccurate, since many games have Overworld Themes. So referring to the theme in this article as the Overworld Theme (for Super Mario Bros.) is fine. I hope this helps. 24.10.181.254 (talk) 21:53, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hi again. I just read the intro to this article, and now see why you asked this question. The concern is that the Super Mario Bros. theme is mentioned in the lead to also be known as the "Overworld Theme", which may sound like a title that many game themes could attribute to themselves. While I agree that this might be (very mildly) misleading, I don't think it's out of place, honestly. When you think of what an alternate name would be for the video game theme that arguably forever altered the world's perception of video games, as well as fans' affinity to them, I don't think you could mix it up with any other "Overworld Theme"--not even the famed Overworld Theme for The Legend of Zelda for NES (at least in this context). The impact that SMB's Overworld Theme has had on the v.g. industry and culture is exactly why there is an article for it and not Zelda's Theme--notwithstanding the great impact Zelda's music has had on video gaming. So, long story short--Yes, it could be attributed to other games, but think of what first pops into most peoples' minds when they hear the words "Overworld Theme". Is it not this catchy melody or the words "Super Mario Bros. Theme"? Anyway, yeah, that's my own (admittedly opinionated) take on this. Regards, 24.10.181.254 (talk) 22:14, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
The theme song actually had lyrics

It's an obvious knock off of a much earlier song
[edit]An earlier version of this song was in a Ginger Rogers movie who's name escapes me. It's about a house full of women who keep being bothered my sailors. The main part I remember is the chorus:
They just keep on knockin'
We don't let 'em in
They just keep a-knockin' but they can't come in.
My momma ain't got no whiskey at home
My momma ain't got no gin
No one but sailors come knock on our door
'Cause no one but sailors want in!
Can't find this song anywhere, though. Just something for people to keep an eye out for. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.90.43.25 (talk) 00:53, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
Inspiration/origin
[edit]I'm surprised no one has mentioned this before, but the main hook of the theme seems to be lifted from a track by T-Square: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2la3MlJx3s&t=63s 88.142.151.11 (talk) 23:59, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
I already added that in the section called "Composition", you can verify that by going directly to the article.--Germanico5468504 (talk) 01:43, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
