Move

Why was this moved? There are far too many projects entitled "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" or "Star Wars: Clone Wars" for this to be a valid article entry. This needs to be moved back to Star Wars: The Clone Wars (film) and this page redirected to the disambiguation page Clone Wars. Rhindle The Red (talk) 13:37, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I would think: as this is the film it would be most are referring to when they say "The Clone Wars" everything else has a clarifacation in parenthesis, but as this is the feature film it's probably the most popular thing entitled The Clone Wars. That being said, I would not oppose a move, as I don't really see it as a big deal. Blackngold29 14:52, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
It's been moved back, but I would still like to point out that with all the different articles, it would be hard to guess what people are looking for, which is the reason the disambiguation page was set up in the first place, with all non-disambiguated titles leading to it. Rhindle The Red (talk) 15:33, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Release Date

Leigh Paatsch, famed critic of the Australian Herald Sun newspaper listed the Clone Wars for a August 14 release date. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.160.66.149 (talk) 07:06, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Characters section

Why was this added? Nobody has seen the movie yet so everything included is speculation. There are plenty of articles about each character which can be linked. Is there any opposition for a removal? Blackngold29 19:13, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Obi-Wan?

Who will be voicing Obi Wan? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.140.196.146 (talk) 00:53, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Plot

Where is the info in the plot coming from? It is completely unsourced. I understand that some background on the Clone Wars can be given at this time, but where is the Hutt and Ventress info coming from? Blackngold29 06:47, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Music

Why am I having so much trouble researching what the musical representation of this project will be? I see that the Original Music will be by Kevin Kiner, with R Orlando Duenas as music editor, neither of which have anything to do with the Cartoon Network 2-D version, nor the Saga. The commercials use snips of John Williams work, so I wonder will this be an original work altogether, or will the music be "based on" the work of John Williams, or will it be a composite of his works, somehow re-mixed and re-edited to fit the scenes? The success of the original saga is so intertwined with its music that it's hard to imagine "too far out of the box". I would like to see more coverage on how much the new score may differ, or resemble, the familiar themes that we've all grown up with, or at least come to associate with, the Immortal canon saga. Episodic

Sorry, someone said Episode VII? This article SHOULD be blocked inmediatly —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.131.178.157 (talk) 00:21, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

General Grievous

Shouldn't we remove General Grievous as his character isn't listed on the official site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.253.64.213 (talk) 00:34, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Film orders

The article claims in the movie box that it is "preceded by" Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. This cant be right, as Anakin turns into Darth Vader at the end of that film... Fig (talk) 19:46, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if that's supposed to be the order they were made, if so that would be true; or if it's their order within the story, which would put it between Epi 2 and 3. Or being that it's not part of the Original trilogy or the prequel trilogy should it even have a chrono at all? Blackngold29 20:08, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Reception

This criticism/praise needs expounding in this section, the information is pretty scant as it is so a polishing up would be helpful.--Casshernfan (talk) 15:40, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

The movie's been out less than 48 hours. Critics' responses don't have to be up to the minute, as reviews are still appearing. There would probably be more to work with if Lucas wasn't busy getting people to take down early reviews.--MythicFox (talk) 12:06, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

The reception seems a bit biased, there's plenty of negativity in it but only one positive review. I didnt like the movie this isnt a time to make it look better, I just think that the section should be more evened out, maybe 2 bad reviews along with 2 good reviews so that it's balanced.

Anime-style?

Nowhere in the article cited does it mention anime at all. The artwork is NOT modeled on anime; it is modeled on the 2-D Clone Wars cartoon characters. I'm deleting that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.209.131.115 (talk) 18:12, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

In the EW article the sentence is cited to Lucas himself uses the term "anime". Blackngold29 18:34, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Even then it's a matter of opinion. I find the art style to be far more reminiscent of 1980s American independant comic books, but that doesn't mean that's what it IS. I think it could be noted that that's what George Lucas said, but to lay it out like empirical fact is just stupid. --71.231.47.23 (talk) 16:42, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
It probably should be accredited, but it should certainly stay due to the sections tiny length. Blackngold29 16:50, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
After watching the previews more carefully on the 'Tube, it looks more reminiscent of TMNT's animation style. If you compare the two, you'll see what I mean. Stormfin (talk) 03:11, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
It would be worthwhile mentioned the style within the article, once we can agree what it is exactly.Londo06 10:08, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Rotten Tomatoes rating

To whoever reversed it back to 23% here's a thought: Check the site. --189.148.78.135 (talk) 19:33, 15 August 2008 (UTC) how come every one giving it a bad apple iv been doing some of my own research and the way people saying it was it was really good or OK —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.226.82.201 (talk) 20:38, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Release info...

This is is not strictly true, and needs clarification, I think:

"It will also be the first film in the series not to be released by 20th Century Fox (Warner Bros. will handle distribution on behalf of co-production partner Cartoon Network), and the first film not to be released in May."

Are we forgetting the Ewok TV films? They were released (I believe) by MGM, and not in May either. Beeurd (talk) 05:15, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

you just answered your own question, the Ewok Films was seen on TV, the Clone Wars film (movie screen) was the 1st Film not released by 20th Century Fox —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.190.125.2 (talk) 12:43, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Questions about this movie

1-So, that little Hutt thing in Episode I was Jabba's son?

2-Does this happen before or after the original "Clone Wars" TV series?

I'm asking because Assajj Ventress is in this, but she was killed by Anakin in the original TV series.

3-Darth Vader - Anakin Skywalker

Darth Tyrannus -Count Dooku

Darth Sidious -Emperor Palpatine

Darth Maul - Khameir Sarin

Darth Cadeus - Jacen Solo

? -Assajj Ventress

What is Assajj's "sith name"?

Assaj has no Sith name as she never actually became a member of the Sith brotherhood or was accepted as such (remember what Dooku said to her in the original "Cone Wars" animated series about hers "not being Sith"). 161.24.19.112 (talk) 20:21, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

4- Is this "Asokha Tahno" the same as Darth Starkiller from "The Force Unleashed"?

Does he/she get seduced by the Dark Side and turns into a Sith?

5-Why didn't John Williams come back for this one?

Gee, this are a lot of questions. I don't really know. Probably, because after Episode III, Williams thought he was done with Star Wars. Plus it's not much of a big movie like the live-action ones, so the score's not all that important and it's kind of a movie pilot to the series premiering in October. Hope I answer your question! Christianster45 22:02, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

6-Are you sure that John DiMaggio is not voicing General Grievous?

7-Also, are you sure that whoever voiced Mace Windu in the original cartoon series is not voicing him here?

8-Why isn't Grey DeLisle also credited for voicing Padme Amidala (who also appears in this movie)?

Some Answers
3. She has no Sith-Name because she is not a Sith, she is just a dark Jedi.
4 No, "Starkiller" is human. 84.176.184.205 (talk) 20:15, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
A few more..
1. The Hutt thing in Episode I was Jabba himself, this takes place some 20 years after that movie.
2. It takes place after the series, the reason for Assajj being alive is explained in one of the comics, I believe, I'm sure the info will be there on her Wiki page.
4. Ashoka is Anakins 14 year old apprentice, Starkiller is a young Jedi who is trained by Vader between Episodes III and IV.
7. Samuel L. Jackson is definitely voicing Windu, most probably because they wanted at least a few big names for the movie.92.21.73.176 (talk) 00:30, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
Are you asking questions? It seems to me that they are statements that really aren't contributing to the article itself in anyway. Blackngold29 02:08, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Credits

Just telling all moviegoers to stay for the credits. There's a special animation at the very end. It's only a few seconds long, but it's probably the best part of the movie (I didn't like it). --Jomskylark (talk) 20:57, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Why is half of the article comprised of criticism from haters?

I don't think it matters to the subject of the article to include so much of the opinions of people who love films like No Country for Old Men (a movie as scientifically and psychological plausible as a 5-year-old's imagination; it might as well be a cartoon too). After all, if I was to write an article about the Oscars, i wouldn't fill half of it with French critics' opinions about it. *rolls eyes* The critics section should be shortened to something much shorter and to the point like "most critics are quick to jump on the bandwagon to criticize the movie in an attempt to make themselves appear to have too matured of a taste to like simple cartoons with simple plotline and animation," or if we all must also jump on the same bandwagon: "most critics thinks this movie was too childish and predictablely dull." Ssh83 (talk) 04:13, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

That would violate WP:NPOV and mis-represent the views of the said critics. As critics they're entitled to their opinions, we can't change that and we have to sum up their reviews. All views should be accredited to their owners, and people can choose accordingly if they agree with that person. If you don't like their opinions, then ignore them; but we can't mis-represent them. Blackngold29 04:29, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

This was not as bad a movie as the critics said it to be. And I am not the only person who thinks this that I know. ForteKane (talk) 21:20, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Oh yea, I forgot that critical reviews aren't personal opinions... ForteKane (talk) 10:07, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, it's not like critics have an education and experience geared towards analyzing films or anything ... and it's not like they are published in reputable journals and newspapers ... oh wait ... dang! Dp76764 (talk) 22:50, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

3-D Galatic Civil War

Ok the clone wars was a good SW film, and now what about a 3-D Vader,Luke,or Han. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Z Thun Der (talkcontribs) 21:05, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

I hate to say it, but there are too many people in this cruel world who want to see Lucas castrated or his head on a pike because he "ruined their childhood", so don't expect him to try to make a 3D one based on the Original Trilogy. I like all the movies, and would indeed LOVE to see a 3D Original Trilogy-based movie, but I doubt it will ever exist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.113.229.35 (talk) 20:06, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

OOHH,and how did he ruin there childhood, man?!Is that what your friends think that or do you?!Don't go telling me he won't create a 3-D Galatic Civil because no one begged him or even asked him to make a 3-D Clone Wars, but with the help of Dave Filoni and an amazing cast and crew he did!And are you even a fan of Star Wars thats just trying to make all the fans into non-fans.So,since you don't believe he will make a 3-D series of the films that started STAR WARS,then you your self should stop being a fan right here, right now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Z Thun Der (talkcontribs) 21:56, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

I'm just saying that there is a cluster of fans out there who panic over small things like "Han shot first", and stuff like that with the additions made to the Original Trilogy in the remastered edition. This extends to the so-called "kids stuff" of the prequel trilogy, such as Jar Jar. And how could you make an inference that I was such a person despite the fact that I noted that I thought a 3D Galactic Civil War would be tight? Finally, I don't blame people on their beliefs, so I have absolutely no prejudice against anyone who didn't like the new stuff added to Star Wars. You seem to simply want to stir up trouble with me, but I am done here, so don't bother replying. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.113.229.35 (talk) 00:38, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

I think what would be truly awesome would be some sort of online encyclopedia, where people would write articles about things that actually exist. That way, the fan sites could handle fan discussion, and the encyclopedia discussion pages would be about improving the article. No irrelevant discussion about fan topics that has nothing to do with writing an encyclopedia! Wouldn't that be tight!?? Staecker (talk) 00:49, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

OOkkk thenwhy are you writing this on here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Z Thun Der (talkcontribs) 22:10, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Relationship to the television show

I thought I had read somewhere that this is basically just the first few episodes of the television series weaved together to form a theatrical release... but the article seems to imply it was not. Having seen the film, it sure seems like several TV episodes tied together (the second half of the film feels entirely different than the first half), but the opening also made it seem possible it was not the very first episodes. Can anyone confirm whether this film is made up of episodes of the television series, and if so, where those episodes fit into the production timeline? -- Mecandes (talk) 11:19, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean... the movie is basically a prologue of sorts to the television series. The ending also suggests there could be more media built on it. --Jomskylark (talk) 20:57, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Indeed, the film is made up of the first few planned television episodes, weaved together, as confirmed by an interview with Supervising Director Dave Filoni and Head Writer Henry Gilroy[1]; I've added this info to the article... it explains a lot. -- Mecandes (talk) 13:04, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

WP:FILMS B-class assessment review

A request has been made to determine if this article meets the B-class criteria for WP:FILMS. Looking over the article, at this time it does meet the criteria and I have reassessed it. However, before advancing to GA, the article will require further expansion as well as a thorough copyedit. I would recommend using the citation templates for the sources that don't use them to help improve the uniformity within the inline citations. For the reception section, I would recommend removing some of the numerous inline citations after some of the statements (some have four or more). I'd draw the line at three, so pick the sources that are most reliable. I'd consider waiting to advance to GA until the DVD comes out as there will be more information available to incorporate into the article. However, these above issues are not going to limit the article in reaching B-class, so it has been updated. If you have any questions or need help with anything let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. Happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 20:13, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Canon?

is this movie considered an official part of the Star Wars canon? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.164.153.106 (talk) 01:57, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Nope. *SIGN* 02:06, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Umm... It says preceded by Revenge of the Sith and succeeded by A New Hope. I believe it is preceded by Attack of the Clones, and succeeded by Revenge of the Sith.

Continuity

Does this film follow the continuity of the live action films. If so, how come anikan has a padwann? I thought only masters could train jedi and he definatly isnt. He isnt even awarded it in revenge of the sith. --82.20.7.93 (talk) 16:40, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

I believe the rules were relaxed in a time of war, as Anakin was a very qualified knight he was allowed a padawan, but I'm not entirely sure. Blackngold29 16:44, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Look, this discussion page isn't for talking about star wars in general. On this discussion page you should limit your discussion to what has actually been written in the article. I like star wars ... (that's my random chat) ... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.56.86.35 (talk) 14:24, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

When the preview for the movie was out in the theaters I remember a guy yelling 'george lucas what are you smoking?' just at the start of the preview, then the whole theater laughed. Are there enough people mad at the idea of the film in terms of continuity and it being nothing more than a cash grab, as the basic story of these characters has already been told and concluded? perhaps warrenting a controversy section?Ottawa4ever (talk) 13:42, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

You don't need to be a master to have a padawan. You just have to be a knight.(remember obi wan from episode 1). You only become a master when you complete the training of your padawan. By the way, search for some information before posting here.85.241.112.177 (talk) 11:18, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

There are continuity problems, especially if you go by the timeline on Wookiepedia. The first graphic novel tied to the movie/series places the action in the "early days of the Clone Wars" (22 BBY), yet at the time, Anakin was still Padawan to Obi-wan; he didn't become a Knight until Jedi Trial, which takes place 19 BBY. The collective editorship of Wookiepedia insists on ignoring every other novels, comics, etc., and placing the story in 22 BBY simply because of that oblique reference. If that what is later determined to be "canon", then its craps all over continuity. Either that one part of that one graphic novel should be ignored or the whole kit-and-kaboodle should just be dismissed as an alternate timeline. Otherwise, you have to dismiss all the comics, graphic novels, and novels of the whole Clone Wars series that came before and then, yes, it's a mere cash grab and continuity is a joke.
I love the movie and the new series and have recorded every episode. Anakin didn't make Knight until around six months before the events of "Revenge of the Sith", so there was time. The first two Clone Wars cartoons were sort of out of sync with the rest of the Star Wars Universe, particularly the second series which purported to show not only Anakin being Knighted, but his and Obi-wan's final mission before the Battle of Coruscant; that much can be written off as coming from a different point-of-view.
A Knight becomes a Master by training a Padawan to full knighthood, or has attained sufficient experience and status to be granted the title, or else undergoing a more stringent set of trials; Ki-Adi-Mundi gained the rank upon appointment to the Council. Genre classification

There is a discussion in progress concerning the "epic space opera" label being used throughout the Star Wars film articles. Both epic and space opera are being questioned in the lead.
