Sanad ibn ʿAlī

My guess (after a mildly fruitless search) is that this person is better known as Sanad ibn ʿAlī. See, for example, Brentjes, Sonja (2007). "Sanad ibn ʿAlī: Abū al‐Ṭayyib Sanad ibn ʿAlī al‐Yahūdī" (PDF). The Biographical Encyclopedia of Astronomers. New York: Springer. p. 1011. ISBN 978-0-387-31022-0. {{cite encyclopedia}}: Unknown parameter |editors= ignored (|editor= suggested) (help) Certainly most of the information given here matches what I know about Sanad ibn ʿAlī.
The only reference provided by the original author (which I have removed) was to muslimheritage.com, which is not a reliable source (see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 18#History of Science). The reference was used solely for the anecdote about al-Farghānī in any case.
