Editing

You all need to stop vandalizing the page. You are truly annoying. Stop putting spoilers, stop making up names, stop putting false information, stop deleting things. It’s annoying for the people who are actually on here to edit these pages because they have nothing else to do. You’re ruining it for everyone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.183.100.236 (talk) 03:22, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

Page protection

Resolved

To co-opt a phrase from Latrice Royale: The level of vandalism on this page? Far too much.

Since the previous semi-protection level for this page was was removed on March 22, 2020, the number of disruptive edits from unregistered users and those who are not auto-confirmed seems to be off the charts. Sherry Pie's disqualification seems to be drawing more vandalism than what has usually been seen on prior season pages. Can this protection level be restored until the end of this sesaon's broadcast schedule? I don't know if that date has been announced, but I would assume June 30, 2020 would cover it. Thanks! Contestant progress for Episodes 1 and 2

Semi-protected edit request on 29 February 2020

The queens were all listed as SAFE during the premiere. No queens were specified as top or bottoms that week; aside from the winning two. They should all be listed as SAFE. 47.54.2.81 (talk) 12:11, 29 February 2020 (UTC)

Not done: The table doesn't show anyone in the "bottom" it reflects the episode descriptions and what happened during the episodes "Low" = safe but negative critiques, "Safe" = received general critiques but declared safe, "High" = positive critiques but declared safe, "Top 2" = contestant was in the top 2 but lost the lipsync for the win and "Win" = contestant was in the Top 2 and won the lypsinc for the win. Nicky, Brita, Crystal, Heidi, and Jackie got positive and negative critiques. This is a special episode, just as Season 9 premiere. Objectively, with the exception of Gigi and Widow, they were all SAFE.

Agreed. Widow won. Gigi was top 2. The rest were safe. The episode did NOT have clear highs or lows Micronesiarain (talk) 03:22, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Episode 1 highs and lows

Episode 1 did NOT have set high and low placements. Widow and Gigi were the top 2, with Widow being the challenge winner. The other 5 queens were given both positive AND negative critiques. None of those 5 got objectively worse critiques than the others. The “Contestant Progress” should reflect that. As it currently is, it doesn’t show an accurate representation of what actually happened on the episode. Micronesiarain (talk) 03:33, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Hey so, back during Season 9 (I believe) is whenever sources would have to be cited in help determining the placements. Here is one I found that also checks out the same placements listed in the table. https://ew.com/tv/ranking-drag-race-season-12-looks/.Asd17 (talk) 15:55, 5 March 2020 (UTC)

Could it be possible that the article used those placements because those were the placements on this wiki?! Micronesiarain (talk) 06:27, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Also, the premiere of S9 had a top 3 that was indicated on the show. S12 did not. Micronesiarain (talk) 06:29, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

I would also list everyone as SAFE but receiving critiques. They didn't really specify anyone who was better than the others or worse than others, outside of Gigi and Widow being the top two. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:1970:56DE:BC00:8515:A858:8B88:ECFB (talk) 20:12, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Then these people need to stop placing them as HIGHs and LOWs.. MrMcCheeseMan (talk) 20:40, 6 March 2020 (UTC)

Episode 1 and 2: Highs, lows and safe queens.

When the judges gave their critiques they said good and bad things to each queen but they were queens who was one step closer to be the top 2 of the week; they were Jan (from the second group) and Jackie Cox (from the first group) I think that needs to be recognized. On the other hand Heidi and Dahlia did a little bit bad, so they should be low just based on their critiques. Jg.grx (talk) 14:31, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

-Episode 1 https://www.vulture.com/2020/02/rupauls-drag-race-season-12-premiere-recap-im-that-bitch.html "Finally, it’s time for critiques. The praise is relatively even-handed across the board, but the judges are in love with Gigi’s fashions, Widow’s performance, and Jackie’s lyrics, establishing a de facto top three. The judges praise Heidi N. Closet’s performance, but hate her name. (Can we cut this girl a break??) They also admonish Nicki Doll for not owning her star quality, a critique that’s often a death knell on Drag Race."

https://www.tvfanatic.com/2020/02/rupauls-drag-race-season-12-episode-1-review-im-that-bitch/ "Since this was a non-elimination round, much of the critiques from the judges were light and fun. Heidi and Nicky got the most negative feedback and need for improvement, so if this were reversed, they most likely would've been in the bottom."

-Episode 2 https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/rupauls-drag-race-season-12-episode-2-recap.html/ "On the runway, the category is tulle and as they get their critiques, it looks like Dahlia and Rock did the worst overall."

https://www.goldderby.com/article/2020/rupauls-drag-race-season-12-episode-2-recap-live-blog-news/ "Assessing the queens performance and runway looks, the judges appreciated Aiden’s balance of campy and fashion looks, but Ru was concerned with her “meaty tuck,” which is to say that she’s not taping her junk up close enough to her body to make the crotch look as it should. With Dahlia, Michelle questioned how real she was being with her personality and warning her that she can’t just rely on the sexuality. Robyn really liked Jaida’s playfulness and Ross thought that she was so confident that she could sell anything. Jan was both applauded for thinking outside the box in the tulle runway, but the judges also warned her that she can’t show too many sides of herself so quickly because it could get her in trouble in terms of focus. Michelle was confused by Rock M.’s sense of humor, going from a 1920s accent to a fart joke in her lyrics, and Ross thought she could use more of an editing eye. Lastly, Sherry earned high marks for her commitment to putting on a show and having a clear vision for her brand."

https://www.dailyxtra.com/rupauls-drag-race-season-12-episode-2-168282 "Aiden and Rock both acquit themselves well, though the judges seem to prefer Aiden’s more straight-up take on the material than Rock’s scatalogical humor approach to it. Dahlia is the only one who fails at the challenge, as she both comes across as nervous in her performance and out-and-out lies about herself in her verse."

https://www.vulture.com/2020/03/rupauls-drag-race-recap-season-12-episode-2-you-dont-know-me.html "The judges praise the queens pretty equally, with two exceptions. First, Ross and Michelle are grossed out by Rock M. Sakura’s fart joke. (Somehow this is where Drag Race draws the line?) Second, Michelle admonishes Dahlia for seeming nervous and then questions the inspiration behind her lyrics. “You’ve won titles? What are those?” Michelle asks. “Mostly just being on the train being a whore,” Dahlia replies."

Leaving these here. I'll post more sources when I can find them. Asd17 (talk) 18:11, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

Ultimately there was no low or high as everybody was safe aside from the Top 2. Meanwhile Heidi is listed as low when she was the last person from the first group to be called safe, implying she was closer to being in the Top 2 than anyone else. Nothing substantial supports the idea of the queens being high/low aside from top2 aside from personal interpretations of critiques. Therefore everybody (except for the top two) should be listed as safe for the first two episodes. Citrush0e (talk) 11:17, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

Whilst one can argue if there are HIGHs and LOWs on this episode, the point of Heidi being closer to the Top 2 is just incorrect. In the traditional format, the last girl to be called SAFE is the LOW queen. The queens did NOT know about the format Ru was following for the first episode. It's presumed that Sherry and Gigi are the Bottom 2 until Ru says otherwise because they're just trying to buld suspense and confusion by following the REGULAR pattern until it's otherwise mentioned. Therefore, Heidi would place LOW in this instance. Ellis.o22 (talk) 23:17, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

The contestant progress for episodes 1 & 2 is incorrect. All queens who were not in the top 2 were SAFE with critiques. Billwebster91 (talk) 01:37, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

Episode 1 and 2 didn't have any high or lows besides top two. This keeps getting changed, but it shouldn't be. As no one was up for elimination - and the top two were called last, there were not traditional "sorting" of the top queens from the bottom queens. RealityTVChartFan (talk) 13:04, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Instead of "TBA", Sherry Pie's placement should be listed as "DSQ" for her placement, since it does not matter in the long run because she was disqualified from the competition entirely. Klak1dw (talk) 05:02, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Undone: This request has been partially undone. The article needs to ensure compliance with WP:V at all times and have reliable sources especially when dealing with living people as per WP:BLP. Since the show is largely pre-recorded and the outcomes are already determined before the show airs we have no idea how far along Pie progressed in the competition. The disclaimer and official statement just says Pie was disqualified and "will not appear in the grand finale scheduled to be filmed later this spring." Now "appear" could mean several things we don't know at this point. For the time being in the contestant table the "TBA" indicator with a note should be used until we officially know how far along Pie progressed in the competition before disqualification. I left Pie's name shaded in the contestant progress table indicating no matter how far Pie progresses that they are ineligible to win which at this point is all the public officially knows. Confirmation of placement & eighth victim

The NBC News report (https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/sherry-pie-disqualified-rupaul-s-drag-race-finale-over-catfishing-n1151826) on the Sherry Pie misconduct story adds two new details that should be added to the article: it confirms that Sherry reached the final four prior to disqualification, and profiles an eighth victim who did not previously speak to Buzzfeed News. 173.235.73.176 (talk) 01:45, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

This can be included in the controversy section however there is always a possibility that the production could replace Pie with the queen that originally placed fifth as part of the final four thus making Pie's final placement 5th as a result of the disqualification. There is also the possibility the final could be re-worked into proceeding with just the top three queens of the season leaving Pie in 4th place but disqualified from winning. So the information from this article can be included in the Sherry Pie catfishing allegations and disqualification section but the two tables (Contestants & Contestant progress) which are episode dependent need to be left as is for now. Alucard 16❯❯❯ chat? 23:49, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
It's also possible, given everything that's happening in the outside world now, that the finale could follow a completely different format than we've ever seen before, such as some kind of livestreamed social distancing faceoff or a complete abandonment of there being any official winner of the season at all — we literally won't know what the show's doing until the show actually announces what it's doing. So the time to figure out what to do with the contestant progress tables is when we know what's actually happening, and there's no place for jumping the gun presumptively. Bearcat (talk) 16:20, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

For episodes 1 and 2, queens received HIGH and LOW critiques despite being safe. Episode 1: Jackie Cox and Brita were High, Heidi N Closet and Nicky Doll were low Episode 2: Jan and Aiden were High, Rock M Sakura and Dahlia Sin were low 143.159.125.243 (talk) 14:29, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

While you could make a point of queens being High i.e closer to winning, because of the critiques, there was no bottom 2, so therefore no queen was low, or close to the bottom. A critique itself cannot be low, but the placement resulting from a negative critique can be low. No one was in danger of going home, therefore no one's placement was Low. If you want to make a new category of "this queen received negative critiques, but there was no bottom, therefore they can't have been anything but safe", go ahead, but choose a good colour for it!
When Ru doesn't say "you three are the tops" or whatever, or give her puns for each of the bottom 3 that has almost become standard, then it's entirely up to interpretation as to what the placements were.
A lot of these people who write articles that are used as sources, take their placements from this article which is taken as almost gospel, so that's a case of a circular source, isn't it?
I've never been sure why some random person who runs a fan blog or writes for an entertainment site, and has an opinion, counts as a verifiable source. Unless they say they haven't taken their placings from here, how can anyone be certain that they haven't? 177.194.178.151 (talk) 16:17, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Gigi is low on episode 8

Since there was a top four and a bottom four with the remaining 8 contestants, and Gigi only received negative critiques for her challenge (was given a positive for her runway, just like Sherry and Jan were given too), it was clearly evident that Gigi’s contestant progress should be marked low for episode 8. Penguin888 (talk) 13:54, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

I agree, I'd even felt they were more positive towards Sherry's ad than Gigi's, even tho they declared safe her first. She received very negative critiques on her ad (and I don't think Ru calling her ad sleeper doesn't mean low) --Sebasdfghjkl (talk) 02:29, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Agreed. Gigi and Sherry seemed to receive similar critiques from the judges (we love your runway, we hate your ad), and I don't think the fact that Gigi was the first of the bottom four to be declared safe means that she placed higher than Sherry did. - Add an Episode 12 column to the contestant's progress table. - In this, put WIN (blue background) in Gigi Goode's section. - Put HIGH (light blue background) in Jaida Essence Hall's section. - Put LOW (pink background) in Sherry Pie's section. - Put BTM2 (red background) in Crystal Methyd's section - Put ELIM (dark red background) in Jackie Cox's section.

- Additionally, on the 'contestants' section - chance Jackie Cox's placement from TBA to 5th Place and change Sherry Pie's placement from TBA to 4th Place.

The reason to add these changes is that Episode 12 of RuPaul's Drag Race season 12 aired on the 15th of May - with these additions being the placements of the contestants this episode, and the information on the now eliminated contestants. Sherry Pie being placed 4th is due to her disqualification from season 12 - meaning, despite not being eliminated competition-wise, she is not in the running for the crown and has no chance of winning. 81.101.1.245 (talk) 08:31, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

I think that given the current discussion/uncertainity over Sherry Pie's "placement" and previous decision regarding the way we have organized the page these are our best options for keeping the page accurate:

On the Contestant Table: We should acknowledge Jackie Cox as "5th Place". The current confusion about her placement comes from whether or not Sherry will be considered 4th. However, if Sherry is disqualified ALL placements will have to change not just Jackie's so until we have concrete confirmation on Sherry. We should treat Jackie the same way we have treated every other eliminated queen before leading up to this moment. Until it is confirmed that Sherry has no placement, Jackie is the 5th Place Finisher.

On the contestant progress table: Given the precedent treatment of - Gigi Goode and Sherry Pie in Episode 11, Gigi Goode in Episode 10, And Jaida Essence Hall and Crystal Methyd in Episode 5 (They all received mixed critiques both positive and negative without any definitive answer as to High/Low) and also considering that’s on the RuPaul's Drag Race (season 11) page queens in the top 5 who wrre not in the bottom were all considered "SAFE" our fairest option is to call Jaida Essence Hall and Sherry Pie both "SAFE".

On Lipsyncs and Episodes: The uncertainty of Sherry Pie's influence over placements and the High/Low critiques discussion have no influence over the events of the episode we should update the lipsync table with a new row for Episode 12's Lipsync results and should edit the episode table with correction for Episode 12 as Blobstar above recommended.

Not done: (Non-administrator comment) Contestant table Sherry Pie's placement is determined based on how far she gets in the competition. Whatever placement she reaches in the episodes is the placement the article will reflect. It doesn't matter that Pie was disqualified for example Willam was disqualified in season 4 and placed 7th overall. If the show decides to do something different in the episodes this season then the article will reflect it. As of now Pie is marked with TBA and Cox is at 5th Place because Cox was eliminated as per the episodes. Contestant progress Until a consensus is reached in regards to high/low placements they are not being used for the time being please see the note below. Lip syncs: Labeling Crystal Methyd vs Jackie Cox as Episode 11 is an error and needs to be corrected. I will open a separate edit request for this one. Alucard 16❯❯❯ chat? 22:02, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

We need to edit the contestants progress table to include the last episode. Status of contestants:

Gigi Goode - Win Crystal Methyd - Bottom 2 Jackie Cox - Eliminated.

Considering the ongoing discussion about placements, I'd suggest leaving Jaida Essence Hall as "Safe". And I think it would be good to continue discussing about Sherry's placement and now Jackie's. Should we count Jackie as fifth, or fourth? Should we count Sherry as fourth, "disqualified at top four" or just "disqualified"? Not A Superhero (talk) 06:42, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Highly disagree, all 5 contestands received mostly positive critiques, so both Jaida and Sherry, who were saved, must be placed as HIGH. Or maybe we should mark Sherry as disqualified right there.

Cameos are not guest appearances, and they definitely are not features. Nihlus 19:31, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
I don't think it's accurate to say Dahlia was "featured" in those episodes. She appeared in each episode for no more than 2-3 seconds each and had no dialogue in either. Her appearances were more of a cameo, and she is listed in the "Special Guests" section of the page for those episodes, which seems to be consistent with treatment of cameos from prior seasons. Yompi20 (talk) 19:37, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
Seems there's a consensus to not include Dahlia Sin as a guest in recent episodes. Let's consider this settled. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:39, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

"Cameos are not guest appearances, and they definitely are not features". It seems that you're mistaking the use of the verb feature, which simply means to make an appearance, with the adjective featured which means having special attention paid to it. It must not have been clear that I meant "she has featured", rather than "she was featured", hope that's cleared up. "Can you provide sources to verify?" The source is the episodes? She's literally featured in the episodes mentioned!177.194.178.151 (talk) 02:15, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

Blank cells in the Contestant Progress table

As of this morning, about eight hours before the airing of episode 7, this change was made to the Contestant Progress table:

Contestant 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Brita SAFE SAFE BTM2 LOW BTM2
Crystal Methyd SAFE LOW SAFE SAFE LOW
Gigi Goode TOP2 SAFE WIN HIGH WIN
Heidi N Closet SAFE HIGH SAFE BTM2 SAFE
Jackie Cox SAFE HIGH SAFE HIGH HIGH
Jaida Essence Hall WIN SAFE HIGH SAFE SAFE
Jan SAFE SAFE SAFE HIGH SAFE
Sherry Pie TOP2 WIN SAFE WIN HIGH
Widow Von'Du WIN SAFE SAFE HIGH SAFE
Aiden Zhane SAFE SAFE LOW HIGH ELIM
Nicky Doll SAFE BTM2 HIGH ELIM
Rock M. Sakura SAFE SAFE ELIM
Dahlia Sin SAFE ELIM

I have noticed, both on this page an on those of seasons past, that a number of users adding columns with blank cells for unaired episodes. These changes are made from several hours to several days before the episode airs. What is the purpose of this? To make it easier to update the table after the episode has aired and the results televised? Why not just update the table at one time once the episode results are known?

I personally am not in favor of changes like this, but I wanted to see if a consensus could be gained. Does this violate WP:CRYSTALBALL or WP:OR, or am I just overthinking it? What do you all think? Yompi20 (talk) 18:49, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

From reading what constitutes OR and speculation, I don't think adding the extra column constitutes either of those, since there is verifiable proof from official sources that there is an Episode 7.

However, I share your opinion that it is unneccessary to add an extra column before the episode airs. While it does not violate Wikipedia rules to my understanding, it just seems unnecessary. Blanpiggiesket98! (talk) 19:21, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

Jaida Essence Hall

Hi. I hope everyone is well. I just have a query with Jaida's placement on Episode 3. She was not safe. She was in the bottom group of queens ( viz: In Untucked for that Episode it says "After receiving critiques, the bottom Queens head backstage." and she was in that group ) I hope this did not come across as anything other than wanting everything to be fair. Thank you for your time. Taurus Stargazer (talk) 19:13, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

The description here says Jaida was among the first group of queens that went backstage without receiving a critique, i.e the "safe" queens. Are you then implying that all 7 of these queens are in fact, Low? Or are you saying that she was left on stage and received a critique, do you have a source for this? 177.194.178.151 (talk) 04:00, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Gigi's Makeover Placement VERSUS Jaida's and Crystal's Acting Placement

Both Jaida and Crystal were in the "bottom half" for the acting challenge. The judges gave them mixed critiques (more positive) and they are SAFE and I agree wholeheartedly. Gigi in the makeover and one queen show was given mixed critiques (more positive) and should be placed accordingly (SAFE) the same way Crystal and Jaida are SAFE on episode 5 even though they were in the "bottom half/group". Place them based on critiques NOT perception (whether ours or the queens themselves)

The changes I want to be made are Gigi to be SAFE in the makeover

Change the winner of the episode 12 lip sync to Crystal Methyd instead of Jackie Cox. Jackie Cox was eliminated and did not win. 35.134.119.239 (talk) 11:44, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
