Buy Ron a car
[edit]Buy a car for Ron Gilbert is unique, and dedicated only to Ron Gilbert, which is the subject of this page. It's also a fan based website dedicated only to Ron Gilbert I thnk it has place in the Rob Gilbert wikipage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.115.133.93 (talk • contribs) 16:07, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- Lots of game designers have fan sites. "Buy Ron a car" isn't part of Ron's career or his accomplishments. It says nothing about Ron other than that he has fans, and that he made a joke about wanting a car. I like the campaign (sort of) but I don't think it belongs in an encyclopedia entry. - I agree, in a few years nobody will probably even remember this, and although one could argue putting it in Wikipedia will prevent that, I just don't think we need to do that. :) Retodon8 15:59, 20 April 2006 (UTC)
Wikifying
[edit]I tried wikifying his biography and added details on Cavedog, Good & Evil and his current project. The article still needs a lot of work so feel free to help out! Technitai 12:51, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
WOW guild
[edit]I just added the note about Gilbert's WoW guild. I realize this may seem irrelevant at first, but I think it is significant to show both Gilbert's continued involvement in the computer gaming world as well as the number of current gamers who have in the past had some run in with Monkey Island. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mileslivingston (talk • contribs) 07:37, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Personal life
[edit]I'd like to see more on the topic of Ron's personal life here. Specifically I was wanting to see when he was born but alas, it's not here. -99.36.33.218 (talk) 05:54, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. Maybe he's deliberately hiding his birthday. --77.173.90.33 (talk) 15:47, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
- I knew Ron well when he was growing up in La Grande. He was not born on January 1. His birthday is in later in January. Cognosis (talk) 01:25, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
- In a tweet, Ron states that his birthday is NOT Jan 1. https://twitter.com/grumpygamer/status/1477302573917151236?s=20&t=s6fX9AxdIbV-HKO46vdsgA
- This tweet contradicts the information in this page. Cognosis (talk) 01:37, 7 February 2023 (UTC)
- Also, although Ron grew up in La Grande, he was not born there. Cognosis (talk) 01:31, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

List of games needs to be trimmed
[edit]This just a list of all the games developed at Ron Gilbert's companies, even if he isn't credited in a significant way or at all. If someone wants go through it and check against MobyGames data, then please do. Dgpop (talk) 20:03, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
- You may want to talk to Mr Gilbert about those games: "Dear wikipedia editor: Yes, I really did work on all the Beep Games (with @CKauzlaric) that you just removed from my bio." https://twitter.com/grumpygamer/status/892187512386367492
- --Timemaster (talk) 05:13, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- I'll ping @Dgpop: the editor that removed them. - X201 (talk) 07:41, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
I used the credits at MobyGames (which are usually just copied from the manual) as a source, and Mr. Gilbert was not mentioned for the ones I removed. Here are the credits for Flying Leo, for example. Kauzlaric is listed, but not Gilbert. Got another source to use? Dgpop (talk) 13:30, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- MobyGames shouldn't be used for that kind of info, it's user submitted content and has been deemed unreliable over at WP:VG/RS - X201 (talk) 14:36, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- I generally avoid MobyGames, but are there good alternatives for detailed credits? At least all submissions have to go through an approval process, and credit submissions have to be accompanied by scans of the manual or screenshots. Dgpop (talk) 15:59, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- I saw the conversation about this on Twitter. Here are two sources for Ron's work on The Big Big Castle: GrumpyGamer blog (also confirms he worked on Word Spiral) and the game's official Facebook (second post down, June 4, 2013). Hope that helps. Fovlet (talk) 16:13, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you Fovlet. I added refs for Word Spiral and The Big Big Castle!. An anonymous user re-added the other games, but did not bother to add references. Dgpop (talk) 20:57, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Article's Lead Section
[edit]There was a flag at the top of page since 2013 for a wimpy lead section, but I just tried to fix that, and am about to remove the flag. Yosshi! (talk) 20:07, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
