Where is it?
[edit]Where is it going to be located? (e.g., a cross street)

Name of the station
[edit]I'm honestly unsure about the status of the "VT" in the station's name. While I was able to find a source (and likewise cited it in the article) stating that Virginia Tech was aiming to add their initials to the primary part of the station's name (like with Virginia Square–GMU station), in a lot of images from signage that I've seen at the station, it appears to be depicted/signed as more of a secondary name subtitle (like Vienna station). I was curious if anyone had any thoughts on this. --OrdinaryJosh (talk) 07:37, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
- @OrdinaryScarlett: The WMATA's website seems to indicate that Potomac Yard is the name of the station. The official map gives the name as "Potomac Yard-VT", with "VT" on a separate line and slightly smaller. However, the map also shows the Addison Road station as being named "Addison Road-Seat Pleasant", with "Seat Pleasant" again on another line and in smaller text. Similarly, Woodley Park station is listed on the map as "Woodley Park / Zoo-Adams Morgan", but "Zoo-Adams Morgan" is on another line and smaller. – Epicgenius (talk) 17:13, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- The pillars seem to be "Potomac Yard Station<new line>VT" while the sign above the entrances is "Potomac Yard-VT Station". See [1] for a photo around the opening. Skynxnex (talk) 17:17, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- Interesting; thanks for the insight. Sadly I can't see the Twitter link (at least, not unless I log in), but I actually saw the station myself recently. The positioning of the "VT" name might indicate that "VT" is a subtitle, similar to at Woodley Park and Addison Road, rather than part of the official name... or it may just mean that we have to move the other two articles. – Epicgenius (talk) 17:21, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oops forgot Twitter did that. I'm sure there are more pictures of signage and based on news media it seems fairly evenly split between having "-VT" or not. My sense is most common conversation omits VT but not 100% of the time. WMATA doesn't make this easy since they keep tweaking things over the past 15 years in terms of the extra parts of names. Skynxnex (talk) 18:55, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- The signs inside the station list VT as a subtitle consistent with the map formatting (they read "Potomac Yard Station" with VT in smaller font below), as VT is at West Falls Church or "Kennedy Center" is at Foggy Bottom. As far as I can tell only the pylons call the station "Potomac Yard–VT". And WMATA's page for the station suggests that VT is simply a subtitle (comparing it to Virginia Square–GMU station, which WMATA labels accordingly). So I think the article should likely be modified to make VT a subtitle? —User136596 (talk) 23:52, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

- To add onto this, furthermore, I've watched some footage filmed onboard a 7000-series train which announces it both visually and audibly as simply just "Potomac Yard," without the "VT" at the end. --OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 20:44, 14 July 2023 (UTC)

Potomac Yard–VT station → Potomac Yard station – See above. Per WMATA's maps, website, and most signs at the station, VT is a subtitle, not part of the station's name (see West Falls Church station as an example).
