I would like to edit out some of the false information and replace it with true information. 206.176.120.129 (talk) 18:17, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Current: The PlayStation 4 was released to critical acclaim, with critics praising Sony for acknowledging its consumers' needs, embracing independent game development, and for not imposing the restrictive digital rights management schemes like those originally announced by Microsoft for the Xbox One. Critics and third-party studios, before its launch, also praised the capabilities of the PlayStation 4 in comparison to its competitors; developers described the performance difference between the console and Xbox One as "significant" and "obvious." Heightened demand also helped Sony top global console sales. By October 2019, PS4 became the second best-selling home game console of all time, behind the PlayStation 2.

Suggestion: The PlayStation 4 was released to critical acclaim, with critics praising Sony for acknowledging its consumers' needs and embracing independent game development.

Although the PS4 was also praised by the entirety of the gaming populous for not imposing the restrictive digital rights management schemes upon release like those originally announced by Microsoft for the Xbox One, in spring of 2021 it was discovered that DRM does exist on the console if the system wasn't connected to the internet for check-up and had a dead CMOS-battery for the clock that influenced the DRM (collectively referred to as a "C-bomb"), which would also lock out physical games.[1] The revelation resulted in controversy among retro enthusiasts and media preservationists while the general gaming community felt as though they were retroactively lied to in marketing. The PS5 (which is backwards compatible with the system) is currently reported to not have any C-bombing or physical lockout DRM with either generation of games. 2A02:A449:5360:1:9537:6657:CAB:79BA (talk) 17:29, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Best-selling PS4 game

[edit]

An editor keeps making this edit, calling God of War the best-selling PS4 game. The source verifies the sales figure, but doesn't make the claim that it's the bestselling game per se.

Unless we have a source calling it the best-selling, I don't think it belongs in the field. Sergecross73 msg me 18:49, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Agree since that figure may not exclude PC port sales. --Masem (t) 18:53, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In the last paragraph of the History section, it states that due to the "ongoing" semiconductor shortage, the PS4 was continuing production. The shortage ended a year ago and the PS4 has subsequently stopped production, as Sony has stopped reporting sales figures as early as Q1 of 2022: https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/er/pdf/22q1_supplement.pdf
