Party Animals - Page Title Change (CN)
[edit]Greetings @Zxcvbnm, I got a request from Recreate Games to change the title of the Chinese page from 动物派对 to 猛兽派对. Is this something you would be able to assist with? I was able to update all instances of the wrong name except for the page title, which I assume requires admin privileges to edit. Thank you! Crossedkiller (talk) 13:05, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Crossedkiller: I am somewhat balking at this, since the former appears to be used more in sources. For example, this source uses "动物派对". If this represents a mid-development name change, WP:COMMONNAME applies and it will have to start being used by sources to describe the game. Basically, I need more background as to why exactly the name is changing, and whether the name used previously was wrong or just the original name. Furthermore, a reliable source that proves this claim is required, since anyone can come out and say "I'm Recreate Games, change our game's name!" ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 13:56, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- Also, admin privileges aren't needed to move pages, WP:PAGEMOVER rights are. This requires "six months of editing history and at least 3,000 edits". ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 13:57, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm I completely understand, and I appreciate the safety measures taken. I'll be happy to provide proof of my identity and the request if you have an email I can reach out to?
- Also, thank you for the clarification on the Page Mover rights! Crossedkiller (talk) 16:00, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- See WP:NAMECHANGES. Ultimately, Wikipedia's policy is not to immediately respond to any company wishing to change its name or one of its products. An encyclopedia specializes in history, and historically, the game has been known under the Party Animal name - looking at it through that lens, it makes perfect sense why changing it right away would be weird, even if the developers or company show explicitly it's them. Once the name change is publicized and written in reliable sources, those sources can be shown as examples the name can be changed. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 16:19, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- That isn't to say a name change can't be mentioned in the article itself, cited to something like, say, a social media post. However, the article would continue using the old name overall until the new name was more common. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 16:22, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
