Disambiguate?
[edit]Shall we disambiguate from Ox (Portland, Oregon), which is also about a restaurant? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:03, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Requested move 28 February 2022

The result of the move request was: move to Ox (Belfast restaurant). I will move the Portland restaurant as well. (closed by non-admin page mover) feminist (talk) Слава Україні! 03:59, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
Ox (restaurant) → Ox (Belfast) – There's another notable restaurant called Ox in Portland, Oregon (see Ox (Portland, Oregon). Ox (restaurant) should be converted into a disambiguation page. --Another Believer (Talk) 14:28, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose I do not see why an older, Michelin starred restaurant should give up its present article title. This look like USA-bias to me. The Banner talk 22:37, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support. Ox (restaurant) is incomplete disambiguation. As an alternative, would also support use of revised parenthetical qualifiers Ox (Belfast restaurant) and Ox (Portland restaurant). —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 19:30, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- At the time of writing (2016) the disambiguation was sufficient. The steakhouse got its article in 2020. And clearly, the writer found the name good enough at that time. The Banner talk 19:58, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- It was sufficient then, absolutely! And now it no longer is. The purpose of disambiguation is to distinguish between topics of the same name, and locking in a term that no longer fits that role runs counter to its purpose. It's not a matter of which one came first, or even which one is better known (unless we were debating if it should be at the base name Ox, which is certainly not the case here).--Yaksar (let's chat) 23:29, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support Ox (Belfast restaurant) and Ox (Portland restaurant). -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:57, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support As there is more than one notable restaurant with the name, the current disambiguation is inadequate.--Yaksar (let's chat) 23:23, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- Should we use Ox (Portland, Oregon restaurant) since Portland, Oregon is the name of the parent article? There are many Portlands. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:30, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- An exchange of views regarding that topic is at Talk:Ox (Portland, Oregon)#Discussion affecting the main title header of this article. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 01:00, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support. Anyone typing "Ox Portland" or "Ox Belfast" will find the restaurant they are looking for. But if I type "Ox restaurant" I will only see the restaurant in Portland--probably because I live in the United States. It imagine it is the opposite for anyone living in Belfast. Disambiguation is needed given we have an international audience. (P.S. "Ox (restaurant) could just as easily describe the Portland restaurant, and that's why disambiguation is needed.) - ...what supports my earlier claim of a USA-centric move-request. Not a neutral one. When I google the same I get the Belfast restaurant as number 1 hit (from the Republic of Ireland. not even Great Britain). The Banner talk 09:18, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- @The Banner: This is an odd claim. If you are in the Republic of Ireland, then you are closer to the restaurant (Belfast) than someone in the U.S. It makes sense that you'll be seeing different results than me. The move request is neutral because Ox (restaurant) is ambiguous because there are multiple restaurants known as Ox, and also because both restaurants are being given parallel names, like Ox (Belfast) and Ox (Portland).
