Top Science and Engineering School?

Shameless self-promotion
[edit]This NYIT entry is all about shameless advertising with constant monitoring and touchups by the public relations department. There is nothing here about the various lawsuits NYIT is fighting. There is a lot of boasting (adjectives like "strong" and "respected" are utterly nonfactual) and deflection. There is nothing about NYIT's abysmal rankings in the US News and Forbes evaluations -- which are imperfect but taken very seriously in this country -- nor about the $4MM Department of Justice whistleblower settlement, unheard of penalties for a "nonprofit" organization: http://www.justice.gov/usao/nys/pressreleases/December12/NYITSettlementPR.php.
NYIT was ranked one of the most beautiful campuses in the country in the Underground Guide to the College of Your Choice back in the '60s. It still is. But its commuter-college lifespan was doomed given its low national academic ranking. The marketing department is using Wikipedia to sell this college internationally. There is nothing "strong" about this school except its spinning skills. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cteevan (talk • contribs) 03:27, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Campus Newspapers
[edit]The NYIT Chronicle at Manhattan campus no longer is published (neither paper nor electronic). I cannot find a good source for this info but we "know" the paper hasn't been produced for several years. How can this edit be done without a reliable source other that the fact that I, as an employee, know it isn't running anymore? MlaneNYIT (talk) 20:53, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
- It is still published, but not as frequently as it used to be.--Shucksunup23 (talk) 22:46, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Can you find any evidence that it has been published in the last 12 months? MlaneNYIT (talk) 22:51, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- You need to talk to NYIT's current students, lol. BTW, are you really an employee at NYIT?--Shucksunup23 (talk) 22:54, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yep, Wikipedia requires editors to disclose when they are editing the page of their employer. Regarding the student paper at Manhattan I know it isn't running but I can't find a reliable source (I can't just say I talked to 5 different administrators at MA) so I have to leave it even though I know it's wrong. MlaneNYIT (talk) 02:45, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Jonesboro site
[edit]The Jonesboro site is only in the planning stages but has not been officially opened. Is it appropriate to list it here as though it is already functioning as a campus location? MlaneNYIT (talk) 22:12, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, because NYIT and ASU officially announced it on their websites.--Shucksunup23 (talk) 22:47, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- A plan was announced but that's all. No site actually exists yet beyond the planning stage. It seems premature to list it as a thought it is a functioning NYIT site/campus. MlaneNYIT (talk) 22:53, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- No, NYIT already spent $10 million on it. And it has been covered by many media outlets--Shucksunup23 (talk) 22:56, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
I removed the Jonesboro site as none of the sources indicate it has opened yet. It is only in the planning stages. I'll attempt to reword and add it back as a "planned site" if there is interest in that. MlaneNYIT (talk) 15:34, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
Richard A. Cody
[edit]Richard A. Cody has been added as a notable faculty member despite a lack of evidence that he is in fact a faculty member of NYIT. Given that this is a potential WP:ALIVE issue I'd like some feedback on this. Note that Richard A. Cody's Wikipedia page makes no reference to him being on the faculty at NYIT. MlaneNYIT (talk) 00:11, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- This problem can be solved by changing the section name from "notable faculty" to "notable faculty and staff"--Harterred (talk) 00:19, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think Board members are, automatically, considered staff. The only statement that is accurate from reliable sources is that he joined the NYIT Board of Trustees. I guess the title could be stretched to "notable faculty, staff and board members" though does that seems an overly broad header? MlaneNYIT (talk) 00:29, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

I think NJIT may have a better way if laying this out. I'll give it some thought and try to structure the notable people list in a better way. For now withdraw my objection. Thanks.MlaneNYIT (talk) 04:35, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks. I suspected some sockpuppetry. Reviewing the edits of the last few days it seems this user returns with new socks each day to perform disruptive edits (not all bad, but not all good and as the above shows, not open to developing real consensus). What do you think about semi-protecting the article to prevent edits from new users for the time being? MlaneNYIT (talk) 13:29, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
- That would be bad as the pre-sock article was very undeveloped, and in very bad condition.--Jowelselway (talk) 22:20, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
On the stub rating
[edit]I'd like to submit this article for a reclassification in WikiProject Universities. It is currently stub class. Prior to doing that I'd like to organize the article according to the structure suggested on the project page [[1]]. This would mean removing "strategic plan"; moving "schools and colleges" into academics; moving "interdisciplinary graduate centers" into academics; moving "accreditation" into academics; moving "student media" into academics; create a research section; create a student life section and move "student media", "Greek life" and "athletics" into it; and create a section for Organization and Administration.
I'd like to get some feedback on moving forward on this and whether it sounds like a way to make the article better (more standardized to the WikiProject Universities style guide). MlaneNYIT (talk) 04:17, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Wrrsimone (talk) 18:05, 14 June 2014 (UTC) In the introductory paragraph it is claimed that NYIT is a ' "Research University." very high research activity.' Although it is not specifically stated, the impression given is that NYIT is Carnegie classified as a RU/VH Doctoral University which is simply not the case, as a visit to https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/List_of_research_universities_in_the_United_States will clearly show.

Hi, under "United Arab Emirates" section, could you please add the following:
The classrooms feature modern technologies such as smartboards and high-tech computers. NYIT-Abu Dhabi has an extensive library collection, catering services and parking facilities. At NYIT-Abu Dhabi, students can participate in a number of extra- and co-curricular activities. Notable people who spoke at NYIT-Abu Dhabi include U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings.[1]
Thank you

@EvergreenFir:, the fact that there are library collection, catering services and parking facilities, as well as availability of extra- and co-curricular activities on the Abu Dhabi campus are just facts that are on the Wikipedia articles of every college. Also, the library section of this article only mentions New York campus library.

The information in the Central Islip portion of the page is out of date, per NYIT.edu's listed offerings for the location: https://www.nyit.edu/medicine/central_islip_family_health_care_center. The entire Central Islip section should be updated to read as follows:
Located in the heart of Suffolk County on Long Island amid a bustling, developing suburb, the sprawling grounds of NYIT's Central Islip site feature Georgian-style brick buildings in a wooded setting. NYIT bought, remodeled and renovated most of the modern buildings of the now-defunct Central Islip Psychiatric Center. While no undergraduate or graduate courses are held there, the site is home to the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine's Central Islip Family Health Care Center. NYIT medical students acquire real-world experience at the center, where more than 3,500 patients from the local community are treated each year.[45] Mightremindyou (talk) 17:44, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

NYIT has five schools and two colleges, all with an emphasis on technology and applied scientific research: School of Architecture and Design, School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Education, School of Engineering and Computing Sciences, School of Health Professions, School of Management, College of Arts and Sciences and College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Should be changed to:
