Two remarks: 'Motu Naʻo' looks like a proper noun but actually, it's more a description (separated (=island) sunk (hidden)) as you realise when you learn there is a second 'motu naʻo' in the northern Marquesas (a submerged bank near Hatutu). (see https://kn0l.wordpress.com/472-2/) As is shown in this other article https://kn0l.wordpress.com/nos-collections/collection9-geographie/les-atolls-et-presquatolls-des-marquises-un-pave-dans-le-lagon/, Motu Naʻo is in fact a large submerged ATOLL with one basaltic rocky outcrop which by chance is also the only part emerging from the sea (making Motu Naʻo an 'almost Atoll'). The case of the other Motu Naʻo is also discussed.
