Orphaned references in Mortal Kombat X

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Mortal Kombat X's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Character renders

[edit]

I've updated all MKX character infoboxes with improved official renders. Much thanks to 185.34.28.184 (talk) for providing the links. sixtynine • speak up • 03:46, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

e-sports

[edit]

The game has a quickly building e-sports community with tournaments worldwide for serious prizemoney, being televised live and on YouTube and everything else normally associated with e-sports games. This should be a part of the article, I think. Here is one example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VunkIKaIVWg and one other (in Russian): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWNc--Sc4Y8 Mister Sneeze A Lot (talk) 10:42, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, here is an official ESL MKX ProLeague (professional e-sports) website for them: http://en.pro.eslgaming.com/mkx/proleague/ Mister Sneeze A Lot (talk) 10:43, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

With respect to WP:BOLD, I added what looked to me to be very obviously relevant links to their e-sports community. Feel free to expand on this if you know of anything else or can improve on what I added. Mister Sneeze A Lot (talk) 11:03, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I've removed the section. One tournament doesn't constitute a "sizable" following, plus two of the links therein are from YouTube (one of which has since been removed), which is not considered a viable source on Wikipedia. However, If you can find more reliable third-party references about the subject, then by all means go ahead and add them. sixtynine • speak up • 17:34, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Please can someone who actually knows something about this re-insert the e-sports part. It is definitely notable and it is a major e-sports community, with $50,000 prizemoney. It easily meets WP:NEWS as there are numerous tournaments going all the time. [1] [2] [3] [4] Mister Sneeze A Lot (talk) 05:30, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, YouTube is not a viable source and links have been removed. The references you have here are the ones that should go into the article. Plus you need to specify what "CIS" is as it leads to a disambiguation page. Thanks. sixtynine • speak up • 21:29, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

DYK congratulations for you today

PS3/Xbox 360 versions cancelled

[edit]

I don't have time to update but someone needs to. Old gen cancellation has just been announced Spilia4 (talk) 20:48, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Spilia4, I have updated the MKX wikipedia page with information about the Last-Gen versions being cancelled. I knew this would happen, due to Ed Boon's potential Kombat Pack 2 Announcement. UltraDark:) 2 CHAT 21:07, 28 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

MKX review

[edit]

A review from a critic is constantly being removed. This seems like an extreme bias. A source link is given but still, Wikipedia remains biased. Text: Game Tech Watch says "NetherRealm Studios were once known for their bad netcode regarding online multiplayer in MK9, but now it seems like they could also be known for their poor character balancing in MKX.". He finds the game very rewarding for people who repeatedly use the same move , which in his opinion favors low level tactics. ("Mortal Kombat X review". Game Tech Watch. Retrieved 10 December 2015.)

"Major update"

[edit]

During an effort to improve the accuracy of the article in regard to which updates added what, I ended up with this "Major update" section I'm not too happy about. The thing is, I don't know where to put it since it's not part of any of the DLC packs. Maybe it should somehow be integrated into the "Release" section, but I'm not seeing it clearly right now. It's 10 AM here and I haven't slept. If nobody else finds a workaround, I will see to revisit it after I get some sleep. --uKER (talk) 13:18, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind. I just fixed it. --uKER (talk) 14:13, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unofficial review -- some things of note:

[edit]

While I don't have time anymore for full on reviews, I thought I'd make some notes to help this article prior to its review:

  • Numbers under 10 (except for dates, sales numbers and other very rare exceptions) should be spelled out
  • The images have no alt text for visually impaired readers
  • Some citations are just a bare URL
  • Some cites use the URL as the publisher, such as gamespot.com, when they should use the proper name, linked, where possible (I.E. GameSpot)
  • There are two dead links
  • Publishers that are publications should be italicized in the citation, and standard when there is not publication
  • TestYourMight.com is a forum, and thus isn't a reliable source
  • What makes nichegamer.net, playstationlifestyle.net, shoryuken.com, Arcadesushi.com, Warp Zoned, ESL Gaming and Mortal Kombat Online reliable sources?
  • Event Hubs is an unreliable source
  • Some dates in the article text do not have a year attached to them (I.E. September 1 should be September 1, 2016)
  • Unreal Engine 3 is mentioned in the infobox, but nowhere in the body
  • In the last paragraph of the lead, there's a sentence that ends with "and netcode featuring a rollback system." Most readers will not understand what that means, it should be explained or removed. If it's explained, do it in the development section and just leave the lead with something like "and improved netcode"

I'm sure there's more that other people will find, but that should get you moving along. --Teancum (talk) 12:53, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing those out. I tried to fix some of those here. Namely, I should have fixed the "numbers under 10", the bare URLs, the dates with no year, the UE3 mention, and the netcode. Most of the ones that remain have to do with the citations' publishers. Anyone who is willing to help is more than welcome. --uKER (talk) 16:41, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

Staking a claim on this one. Will do a throughout look soon. GamerPro64 21:38, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sources
  • Starting off with the sources, Niche Gamer, EventHub, Arcade Sushi, Shoryuken were deemed unreliable to use. I went to the Sources talk page to double check if Niche Gamer is still unreliable but until then there should be a different source for that section. TestYourMight.com might also be unreliable.
  • PlayStationLifestyle is also used, which doesn't have a real consensus of its reliability. Same goes for Game Rant. I don't even know what Game & Guide is but I question the reliability of it too.
  • Also, there should be some consistency to the way the sources are cited. Some sources don't have the name of the writers in them. Game Informer is shown both as "Game Informer" and "Gameinformer.com". The section just needs an entire overhaul.
Gameplay
  • There are now "Citation Needed" tags in it.
Characters
  • There's a "Citation Needed" tag in it.\
  • The section should probably be merged into the "Plot" section just like how Mortal Kombat (2011 video game) has it.

Honestly I don't have much faith in the article passing GAN in its current state. Gonna have to look into it more before judging it. GamerPro64 20:36, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The editor hasn't edited since November and I honestly don't think this should have been submitted to GAN in its current state. I'm failing this nomination. GamerPro64 16:04, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DLC detail

[edit]

Some time ago I reworked the DLC section to reflect the game's DLC release history. This can be seen here. At some point, the DLC pack list was trimmed, only leaving two as an example. While I do agree that the DLC list is a tad too big, it's now weird that some of the Kombat Packs and MKXL reference these minor DLC packs as part of their contents, but there's no other mention about them. Should we try to rework the whole list back in, in some way that it doesn't seem as obtrusive? Suggestions are welcome. --uKER (talk) 18:50, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Whitewashing

[edit]

I feel that the overwhelming negative reception to the whitewashing of Tanya in story mode should be included in the article somewhere, or Tanya should be given her own article to have it placed there. ChrisWiltrout1 (talk) 08:45, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tremor

[edit]

Why the sign "do not remove the bold"? Since Tremor isn´t new to the series? Mortal Kombat Special forces not simply existis but it´s also canon. I want to remove the bold. Ogat (talk) 18:27, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Tremor wasn't playable in SF. Therefore, he isn't considered as being part of that game's roster. --uKER (talk) 22:17, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
