McLean School of MarylandMcLean School – The School has rebranded and would like to be referred to as McLean School from now on. They will no longer go by McLean School of Maryland. This rebrand goes into place on Friday and wanted this page and the related google searches to reflect these changes. Relisted. • Comment McLean High School (Texas) says it is also called "McLean School" -- 65.94.169.222 (talk) 07:09, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment There can be more then one school called McLean School. I don't see why this is a reason it cant be moved to a new page. They want the title to not have "of Maryland" any more as that is not on any of the new materials. It will still be the legal name of the school but not what they want to be referred to in their branding. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.195.92.241 (talk) 13:25, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Wikipedia is not the PR flak for any commercial enterprise. Evidence of primacy of use for that name must come before a page move for it. bd2412 T 14:34, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support-conditional, Change to McLean School (Maryland) also on condition that the school (Rhgross) considers this better than the current name. bd2412 well maybe there's some PR but I'd also interpret it as WP:OFFICIAL NAME. IF the school is notable then there is no problem in helping them when criticism is not better deserved Gregkaye (talk) 18:43, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • If the school is notable, then it should be titled in accordance with the sources that show notability. If the new name catches on and the sources use it accordingly, then it should be retitled to follow the sources (with, as you have noted, the appropriate disambiguator, since there are other topics with similar names). Note, however, that if this school ceased to exist today, we would retain its historical title as referring to the entire history of the institution up to the current rebranding. bd2412 T 18:49, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • bd2412, Thank-you for explaining that. It leaves me wanting to extend my suggested conditions to include the addressing of the issues relating to the advertising tag, which has been up since 2011, and that they are dealt with prior to a change of name. I would still support a "(Maryland)" version of the title but, to my interpretation, the school also needs to adopt an educational rather than a promotional approach to Wikipedia. I have adjusted the opener to "McLean School (formerly the McLean School of Maryland) is a ...".
