Trying to "Prove" Racism
[edit]While the facts of the following statement may be true:
According to the Social Contract Press, a Southern Poverty Law Center designated hate group, Mark Krikorian moderated a debate in which he asked in the beginning of it, "[S]ince Jews can engage in ‘identity politics’ to advance Jewish interests can’t white, Christian Americans also engage in ‘identity politics’ to advance their group interests?" [3]
Why does it matter that the source is a "Southern Poverty Law Center designated hate group"? We would not say that, "According to the New York Times, a Fox News designated liberal media, the sun rose this morning."
If anything, the fact that the cited source is a hate group discredits the source and therefore the fact should be cited from a reputable source. Further, not everyone accepts the right of the SPLC to designate hate groups. Third, the quote simply seems to be a bit of rhetoric, very much inflamed by the introduction of the sentence.
Really the last three paragraphs seem to be almost random "facts" meant to characterize Krikorian as a racist.
I put "facts" in quotes because, for instance, "invading" is in quotes in the second to last paragraph, but the word never actually appears in the article cited (although "invasion" does appear in the title, but not the article, followed by a question mark) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.42.23.2 (talk) 06:25, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem to take much to prove that Krikorian is a bigot. Just linking to what he says is sufficient. 71.203.209.0 (talk) 15:49, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Requested move 20 July 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. There was a clear consensus to move to Mark Krikorian (activist). All the voters supported the move, with fluctuating oppose that argued the activist is the primary topic. The argument was countered by the citation of WP:DPT, along with other supporters even with page views, to show that there is no clear primary topic. Mark Krikorian → Mark Krikorian (immigration critic) – (make dab at Mark Krikorian) Not sure what the modifier should be but no primary topic Hameltion (talk | contribs) 15:33, 20 July 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 21:18, 29 July 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. - Support the immigration critic has 4,876 views but the soccer player has 3,666. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:25, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:ONEOTHER (sparing "the extra navigational step of going through the disambiguation page") and WP:1OTHERPRIMARY. The proposal creates an extra hurdle for readers compounded by lack of an ideal disambiguator. — AjaxSmack 19:38, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- WP:ONEOTHER requires a primary topic, and it's unclear that the activist is more notable than a coach who has won multiple NCAA championships. See WP:DPT. 162 etc. (talk) 22:05, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- "Not sure what the modifier should be..." Articles on subjects with similar résumés use "activist" and "advocate". I prefer the former as succinct and clear enough to disambiguate him from the soccer player. — AjaxSmack 19:38, 22 July 2024 (UTC)
- Move to Mark Krikorian (activist). WP:NOPRIMARY. 162 etc. (talk) 22:05, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: Clearer consensus for what will be the target is important. It should be considering the proposed Mark Krikorian (activist) or Mark Krikorian (immigration critic). Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 19:46, 5 August 2024 (UTC)

- I'd be fine with that. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:48, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
- I still oppose a move per WP:ONEOTHER/WP:1OTHERPRIMARY, but prefer "activist" as a disambiguator if there is consensus for a move per WP:PRECISION ("unambiguous...but...no more precise than that"). — AjaxSmack 20:19, 5 August 2024 (UTC)
