U.S. Highway 24

[edit]

Nowhere in the whole article did it say anything about U.S. Highway 24. The first two things that any stranger (i.e. a person located in some other part of the country, on in Canada) wants to know about any given place is "What highway is it located along?" and "What body of water is is located by?" These things help up find out, in a flash mentally, about where the place is. Local yokels who write such articles ought to keep in mind such things for the benefit of strangers from elsewhere. U.S. Highway 24 is the lone significant highway that runs right through Manitou Springs. Also, there is a body of water there, a stream that flows through town from west to east. Its name is hard to find, but could it be "French Creek"?
Nevertheless, the purpose of having articles about places and things in the Wikipedia is so that people from all over the continent and around the world can find out about them.
As for places, the first piece of information is "Where is it?" For a place like Chicago, for example, the pieces of information that are needed are these: 1). It is on the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan, and 2). It is located at the junctions of Interstate Highways 90, 94, 55, and 57. These located the city pretty well.98.81.4.156 (talk) 20:16, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Flooding

[edit]

Mention should be made of the severe flooding that tore through the town as a result of the denuded foothills due to the Waldo Canyon fire. Catch basins were constructed (I think by the Forestry Service), but were overwhelmed in the severe rains. Poor Manitou! Wordreader (talk) 06:45, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Needed Subjects

[edit]

Could you please add touristy stuff? Info or Links to chamber of commerce. Closest train stations and airports. Main highways. Rest Stops. Thx Kristinwt (talk) 21:59, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

More on the mineral springs

[edit]

I plan to add a bullet under the mineral springs and parks section. •There are a total of eight springs throughout town, each with their own mineral properties.

This is not specifically mentioned anywhere in the article and I think others would find it as interesting as I do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Awildman92 (talkcontribs) 19:42, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Awildman92, There is a separate article: Manitou Mineral Springs.–CaroleHenson (talk) 23:51, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Public library?

[edit]

Manitou Springs used to have a lovely public library, located just down the hill from the elementary school. There's no mention of it here in this article. Does the town no longer have a library? Thank you for your time, Wordreader (talk) 01:44, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It does still have a library in the spot you are describing. Bluedude588 (talk) 22:39, 23 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is mentioned here. And would be good to cover here or somewhere else.–CaroleHenson (talk) 23:49, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dam failure 1924

[edit]

"Until the Malpasset incident, only 4 other incidents of arch-type dam breaches were recorded:

Manitou dam, Manitou Springs, Colorado, 1924 at 38°52′35.47″N 104°59′38.30″W""

Think this might be deserving of a mention somewhere. 47.47.138.54 (talk) 22:02, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Do you have a source? Something that describes the nature and extent of the impact?–CaroleHenson (talk) 23:46, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of the name?

[edit]

It's remarkable that the name incorporates the Algonquin word for 'spirit' despite being so far away from traditional Algonquin lands. The word 'manitou' does not exist in Navajo, Arapaho, Ute, Cheyenne, or the language of any other indigenous tribe of Colorado. If someone knows where to find the answer to this, it would make a good addition to the page. 73.132.156.83 (talk) 00:22, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
