Gare de Magenta → Magenta (Paris RER) – standardize disambiguation in line with other stations on RER network Rollo (talk) 13:58, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). — Amakuru (talk) 14:01, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose for now - the assertion in the nomination is not correct. From Category:Paris RER stations we see that there are plenty of RER stations of the form "Gare de X". And also plenty of others with "X (Paris RER)". If we're going to standardize on one or the other, we should have a discussion about which is appropriate. — Amakuru (talk) 14:01, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
Support. Assertion in nomination is correct, in that the other 6 RER-only stations (rather than mainline stations with RER, see Réseau Express Régional#Stations) do not use the "Gare de" prefix. In general this prefix, French for "station", is obviously questionable in that English-language users, particularly including the tourists using RER stations, should not be expected to know French. Rollo (talk) 22:10, 23 September 2018 (UTC)- Note user:Rollo is the nominator and per WP:RM should not make a separate bolded recommendation, so I have struck that part. Thryduulf (talk) 18:19, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose for now per Amakuru - a look at Category:Paris RER stations shows that (Paris RER) is only the third most common article title format and it's clear that there is no consistent scheme currently:
Disambiguation Count ... station 64 Gare d'/Gare de/Gare du ... 41 ... (Paris RER)
... (Paris Métro and RER)32 Gare d'/Gare de/Gare du ... (Paris RER) 2 ... (Orlyval) 2 [none] 1
- This clearly needs a discussion to sort out a naming convention. Thryduulf (talk) 18:14, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
- Agree that discussion is needed for the convention, but the specific argument above stands. Almost all the RER stations were originally above-ground mainline train stations and many remain that. Only a handful of stations were built solely for the network. These can be assimilated to subway stations for which the Gare prefix makes particularly little sense. Indeed only this one currently has it. Rollo (talk) 10:47, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- I oppose any changes until the convention is established, and the convention should apply to all RER stations regardless of history. Thryduulf (talk) 16:43, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
