Champions

[edit]

Hi. I've just gotten rid of the entire broadcast sponsors section - this is absolutely no relevance to the title of the list.

Now, do we actually need the name of each champion in this list? It's getting massive already and will only continue to do so. I'm not entirely unhappy at keeping the most recent champions name there (or last champion in the case of defunct tournaments), but the number of data items in the list is making it very, very difficult to actually use - which is rather the point of lists. Anyone object? Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:11, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone at all? I'll go ahead and action this over the next few days if no one objects Blue Square Thing (talk) 20:47, 26 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
So, largely done it although it's hideously out of date, lacks even a single reference and the links all need checking. I'd suggest energy be expended trying to actually ill out some of the missing leagues and update some - I found comments referring to leagues that might go ahead in 2013 - that's 4 years ago. Really? Blue Square Thing (talk) 02:08, 1 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What?

[edit]

This is like... weird? Shouldn't the article have T20 in its title, and have the non-T20 competitions removed? Or else a lot more competitions ought to be added to make it a comprehensive list for all forms of cricket? W. P. Uzer (talk) 07:58, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I renamed the page and removed the short and incomplete list of non-T20 competitions, which I reproduce below in case it can be expanded and reused:

Major Bilateral/Trilateral Series (named)

Teams Format Tournament Period Current Trophy Holder
ODIs
New Zealand New Zealand, Australia Australia Test Trans-Tasman Trophy 1985–present Australia Australia
England England, Australia Australia Test The Ashes 1882–present Australia Australia
Australia Australia, 2 other teams ODI, T20I Australian Tri-Series 1979–present Australia Australia (both formats)
India India, Australia Australia Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1996–present India India

official t20

[edit]

Worth noting that, as far as I can tell l, and certainly according to Cricinfo, the Canadian Premier League does NOT have official T20 status. Terminology is confusing because of course it is a T20 competition, but matches are not counted in player records (Cricinfo records these as "Other T20"). Same will likely apply the Major League in the US and possibly the Euro event, if it ever happens. Bs1jac (talk) 15:12, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What does "flagship" mean in this article?

[edit]

If it just means "has official T20 status" then remove this word. Spike 'em (talk) 19:16, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

International T20 leagues

[edit]

The criteria for being listed as one of the "International T20 leagues" seems completely arbitrary, undefined and unsourced. Almost all leagues will allow international players, and so why have some of them been singled out? Joseph2302 (talk) 09:20, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, my thoughts as well. I suggest we reformat it to continental/country lists, yes? Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:12, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List of T20 cricket competitionsList of Twenty20 cricket competitions – Twenty20 is the proper name, and the WP:COMMONNAME, and this is consistent with the Twenty20 article. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:21, 29 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

FLAGS!

[edit]

Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I see no reason why we have so many flags on this page. It seems like a decorative attempt - one we see many times in cricket articles - and appears to have no real justification. Anybody want to convince me otherwise? Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:13, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody? I shall remove them unless someone convinces me there are a good thing. Blue Square Thing (talk) 18:16, 29 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Most of them violate MOS:FLAG. Remove them all. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:38, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reworking back to list format

[edit]

So, per discussions above, I've boldly:

  • removed all the flags
  • removed the international stuff - because I really don't understand why we appear to have the same leagues listed three times
  • removed the Association bit and the blank bit right at the bottom

I'm about to:

  • go through and check things - there's probably some stuff missing now
  • remove the tables - these just make it more complex

Do we need to:

  • come up with a clear inclusion rationale? Or can I add the Borcestershire Cricket League T20 sponsored by Grundy Cider?
  • discuss if I've removed anything that needs to stay?

I'll be a while tidying up after myself initially. Blue Square Thing (talk) 14:08, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've done my best, but this is hideous in places. Some queries:
  • do we want amateur leagues like the Indian celebrity one?
  • do we want one off invitational things?
  • is the Zimbabwean one still going and if so what's it called?
  • do we want to include things like the National Couties T20? Given that we have regional Indian ones? And where do we stop?
That's all for now. Blue Square Thing (talk) 16:47, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your work on the article. Regarding what to include, the easiest place to draw the line would be only including tournaments with official T20 status - it would mean getting rid of some prominent leagues such as Major League Cricket, the Canada Global T20 and the UAE ILT20 but otherwise it could spiral out of control as you allude to. Potentially a separate section could be included for non-official T20 leagues that are notable enough for their own Wikipedia article - again, at least that puts some notability criteria on it and can help point readers to further information. On the Zimbabwean tournament you refer to, are you talking about the Zim Afro T10? Wouldn't be included here anyway given it's the T10 format. Mpk662 (talk) 13:28, 31 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looks much better and more encyclopedic now. The international section was just made up table nonsense, that only the annoying sockpuppet wants to keep. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:31, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Structure

[edit]

I find this structure by geography as the primary level sub-optimal because it does not allow anyone to easily see and compare certain key information about the competitions.

Is there any support for structuring headings as, firstly and 'Current competitions' and 'Former competitions', then 'Men's competitions' and 'Women's competitions' (i.e. within each of 'Current competitions' and 'Former competitions'), then by geography? Boneymau (talk) 03:39, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Should this tournament be included because it was sanctioned by Cricket West Indies? @Godknowme1 @Bs1jac, @Kumarpramit, @WikiEditsPS, @Goodknowme, @Joseph2302, @PEditorS10, @Ankurc.17, @MNWiki845, @Vestrian24Bio, @Cric editor. Pkr206 (talk) 04:09, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps wait till the tournament is inaugurated on 26 November. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 04:15, 7 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
