References for the List Mayoites

[edit]
  • In this list in the reference section kindly provide references if possible from where you are getting these entries for the list to make it more credible. Kindly search for credible articles, books and Newspaper & Magazine online clippings etc. where it is mentioned that these people attended Mayo College, Ajmer. Also do provide reference to any published list of Mayo College Alumnus you are referring to.

Try and format your references in wikipedia style or if you are new leave them raw in which case future contributors can help formatting them.

If it is alright kindly click on login at top right of any wikipedia page and create a simple free account and always login with your username and password before editing, this way your name gets registered in the editing history of the wikipedia article you work upon.

Thanks

Suggestion on how to format References properly in Wikipedia (press the Edit button to see the formula)

[edit]

Note: Please read this full section after pressing Edit above, read in the Edit Box after pressing edit for it to make sense.

Please note that the full references have to be put between [1] in the main text in the article right next to the subject line, the reference automatically appears in a numerical order in the “Cited references” section, here are two examples taken from the Miscellaneous section of the List Mayoites, you have to make the “Cited references” section though, see below on how to after pressing edit above:

(Please ignore Reference Number 1 in Cited reference section below, when you press edit (above in the heading next to "Suggestion on how to format References...") to see the formula you will know why)

Cited references

[edit]

Note: Now you can go back from the edit box (presuming you had pressed Edit and are reading this in the edit box on wikipedia) to previous page by pressing the back button on your internet browser, do not save your edit here as you had initially pressed Edit on my suggestion to read the formula above on how to format references.

Hope above will be useful, thanks

Notability

[edit]

I'd like to know the criteria used to determine notability of the people included in this list. Specifically, I propose to remove people with no wiki bios from this list. --Ragib (talk) 07:38, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that there are no wikipedia articles on many of the people claimed to be notable mayoites. It will be great if you could start the articles ... without them it is difficult to figure out who is and who isn't notable. For example, several professors were listed without showing why they are notable ... and the criteria for inclusion into the list is not clear. I suggest following the convention in other wikipedia lists and include only people with wikipedia biographies. Thank you. --Ragib (talk) 05:46, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Late Shri Hari Narayan Maheshwari who was professor at Maharajas College, Jaipur was deputed as professor in Mayo College in the year 1922. Earlier he was professor at Maharajas College, Jaipur. Shri Hari Narayan Maheshwari (Toshniwal) passed BA (Arts) from Maharajas College, Jaipur in 1904 with the subjects English Literature, Persion and Political Economy. It was the University of Allahabad which awarded that BA Degree. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.197.1.88 (talk) 17:51, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, I question the criteria used to create this list. If a person does not have a wikibiography, I recommend removing him/her from the list. Otherwise, it will pretty soon (if not already) become a list of Mayo college alumni with (or without!!) minor notability. --Ragib (talk) 04:23, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Page needs significant cleanup

[edit]

This page requires significant cleanup if it is to meet the criteria for notability; several entries (e.g. a recent alumnus who is a Lieutenant in the Navy) are clearly not meeting the notability criteria.) The page appears to have become a dumping ground for random entries about alumni. This is a pity, since Mayo presumably has a number of notable alumni to its credit since it has been in existence for a number of years. Spy99 (talk) 18:41, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested merge

[edit]

I suggest that the following articles be merged. The List of Mayoites will be shortened if non-notable names are deleted, as suggested in Talk for the article.

I've placed this comment in Talk for all 3 articles, but suggest continuing discussion should be in Talk:Mayo College

Notability

[edit]

The inclusion of numerous non-notable (in Wikipedia's sense of the word) people in this list has been raised several times before, but not properly dealt with.
I have added the Alumni clean-up template and added wikilinks to all the names to identify those without articles (although some may be false links to other people of the same name)
Names without Wikipedia articles, or substantial, independent, references meeting WP:BIO will be removed shortly. - Arjayay (talk) 09:11, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Having waited over three months, I have removed names without their own article, disambiguation page or references whatsoever.
Links to disambiguation pages to be checked; then references. Only references providing significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, are acceptable - this excludes anything produced by the college, or the Mayoites' employer, as these are not independent - Arjayay (talk) 11:01, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing

[edit]

After removing all entries without article, I checked the last six members on the list. None had sources to verify membership in the list. None had sources on their own article, most not even mentioning the subject. I removed them all. Judging from this random sample, the entire list is probably candidate for deletion. --Muhandes (talk) 14:18, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
