Le Péril jeune → Le péril jeune –
- Oppose. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (France & French-related)#Works of art, which implies that 'Le Péril jeune' is more likely. (See 'La Peau de chagrin', which is one of their examples). The initial word of the title is usually capitalized. Also, we try to follow the French-language style rules and the movie is currently at fr:Le Péril jeune on the French Wikipedia. - Comment. Most sources seem to instead use Le Péril Jeune, which seems to be more appropriate. [1][2] Second choice would be the proposed title, Le péril jeune.[3] The section Wikipedia:Manual of Style/France and French-related#Naming conventions is on the wrong page, and belongs under WP:AT, as it is a naming convention, and is not a part of the MOS. It implies that the correct title is Le péril jeune, but does not override common usage. [4] is a French language site and can not be used in determining the correct title to be used on the English Wikipedia. It is also pretty clear that the fr:Le Péril jeune title is not correct, but they will have to figure that out. Apteva (talk) 02:39, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
- Mostly irrelevant to the question, or inaccurate. In particular, this about Wikipedia:Manual of Style/France and French-related#Naming conventions: "It implies that the correct title is Le péril jeune, but does not override common usage." Not so. See my contribution below, which refers to a subsection of that. NoeticaTea? 03:52, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
For consistency of French titles on the English Wikipedia, the consensus has been to follow the rules used on the French Wikipedia, which are those used by the French National publishing house (l'Imprimerie nationale) and put forth in its Lexique des règles typographiques en usage à l'Imprimerie nationale. Titles which adhere to these rules may however differ from the actual form of capitalization adopted by the author, the cover's graphic artist, or the publishing house.
...
... if this initial word is a definite article (le, la, les, l'), both the article and its noun and any adjectives or adverbs preceding the noun are capitalized (e.g. Le Grand Meaulnes)- Much WP article text and many WP articles do not conform to this guideline, whose details should be studied closely to reveal the overall logic. But that is the recognised guideline. There are difficult cases like La Jeune Parque; but by the guideline, the word "Jeune" is certainly to be capitalised; and so is "Parque" even though it is not, according to some accounts, a proper name. (See ngrams for English usage and for French usage, covering all eight possibilities for "la jeune parque"; see also variations on une parque).
