Article needs to be rewritten

[edit]

This article needs to be rewritten using secondary sources and not primary ones as is the case presently. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 08:43, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also the subject ought to be Hawkins suspension and not Hawkins herself as notable apart from her suspension. I'm being bold and moving the article to "The suspension of Larycia Hawkins". Yogesh Khandke (talk) 08:45, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've rewritten the article basing it on secondary reliable sources. Others are free to expand it. I did a DYK check and it is longer than 1500 characters. It has been nominated for DYK but the hook needs to be changed. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 09:51, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Moving and mass edits

[edit]

The person has been the subject of numerous WP:RSs which makes her eligible for passing WP:GNG. I wish you had requested a move instead of moving and mass editing the article. I revert your edits per BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. Mhhossein (talk) 12:23, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No issue, others will judge. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 12:28, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This is a talk page where we can discuss the issues to form a consensus. Mhhossein (talk) 12:32, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The article was badly sourced and improperly titled, I corrected that. My edits were undone. As I've said I'm happy with whatever consensus results. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 12:35, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry if I have undone the correction of those problems with sourcing. I'll take care of them. Are you wiling to help? Mhhossein (talk) 12:51, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There were multiple issues, (1)The subject by herself is notable only as a result of this incident, so I changed the title. (2)Most of the sources used were Hawkins' own work and the college - primary sources which isn't good. I wish you'd revert to the new version which makes it a better article imo.Yogesh Khandke (talk) 12:55, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I suggest you a requested move to discuss the moving to your proposed title. As the second issue, can you please discuss those primary sources here and say why you think they are not good? Mhhossein (talk) 05:34, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Primary sources are not good per wp:RS. There are numerous secondary sources which I've used. Please use secondary sources to provide information about her work as you've done here. That will make the information notable. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 02:38, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't wish to go for third party opinion, if you feel my title is better move it, if you don't I leave it at that. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 02:40, 4 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Early life and education

[edit]

We see nothing in this article about how Dr. Hawkins was reared, nor about her family or religious background, her denominational or theological background, or even the state in which she was reared. We don't have names of her parents, or whether she had siblings, and what her politice background was before she joined with AriseChicago.org, a 'faith-labor' organization based in Chicago. MaynardClark (talk) 08:10, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

By all means feel free to help research this and expand the article to include this information (with citations of reliable sources). Articles here are written and improved by users just like you. General Ization Talk 17:41, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Apprpriation?

[edit]

It is innappropriate for cultural appropriation to link here unless some source accused her of it. This woman is not white, and there is no power imbalance betwixt black people and muslims, a power imbalance being neccessary to create appropriation under most definitions.--142.22.115.2 (talk) 17:29, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The subject has written extensively about cultural appropriation. That is why it is listed among the articles in the See also section. Its appearance there is not an accusation concerning the subject. General Ization Talk 17:36, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
