Merger proposal

[edit]

Merge here of Old Rajans Scouts Association

There is massive overlap of content between this article and the article about the Old Rajans Scouts Association. Old Scout Associations depend on the Scout Group for their existence. It would therefore be appropriate to merge that article in this Group article. Scout Groups are rarely notable enough for an article, but I think this one is and adding more information about the Old Rajans Scouts Association adds to the notability. There is also overlap with Lake View Park International Scout Centre which is owned by the Group. That also could be merged here, but since it plays a wider role in Scouting in Sri Lanka, perhaps it can stay as a separate article. Please discuss this merge below:-

  • Oppose; Support to keep them as separate articles as above. Even though 1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group & Old Rajans Scouts Association intercalated with each other – these 2 are 2 separate bodies which has separate administrations. Confusion comes when its talking about International events – since these international events are organised as join venture by these 2 bodies. But except that, each had their own schedules, objectives & process. Will update more content for each article, so it clarifies that we can keep them as separate articles. It seems to me that the confusion that you mention is precisely why they should be merged. It is only that the international events that have sources independent of the subjects of either article and they do not distinguish between the group and the Old Rajans. It is these independent sources of course that give notability in WP terms. Separate administrations are not important as they do affect notability. I was hoping that we would attract more editors to comment here after I listed it at the Scouting Project, but that has not happened. I will see more editors at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers. --Bduke (Discussion) 20:54, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose The proposer is correct thatthere is an overlap. However the ORSA deal with the ORSA, and the 1KDSG ought to deal with the 1KDSG. The correct route, therefore, is to remove the ORSA material from the 1KDSG article properly, linking to the ORSA article in the history arena. The two entities, while inextricably linked, are distinct, and the articles shoulld be separate to reflect this. Fiddle Faddle 23:06, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose In my opinion these two are separate entities established two completely different objectives. Probably lack of information on the Old Rajans Scout Association may not be correctly reflecting the true difference in between. I suggest we wait for some more writers to contribute the Old Rajans Scouts Association article and then see if we really need these two to be merged or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chamindasomathilaka (talkcontribs) 18:53, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. It is clear that I am not getting support here and that I have failed to get much comment even though I flagged this on the merges page and on the Scouting Project. It is probably best left for a while. However, I think the oppose comments miss an important point. Scout Groups are rarely notable. Many articles on them have been deleted or merged and few survive. Articles on "old boy" organisations for a Scout Group are even less notable and this is the only one that I know about. The notability of the "old boy" organisation and the Scout Group both arise for exactly the same content - the international events. Without the international events, both these articles would fail our notability guidelines, so the points about different roles is not valid. Only the same role of jointly running international events is notable. Other roles may be different, but they are unlikely to meet out notability guidelines. Since these events are also discussed at Lake View Park International Scout Centre, perhaps both the "old boy" article and the Group article should be merged there. --Bduke (Discussion) 21:14, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge both the "old boy" article and the Group article into Lake View Park International Scout Centre, otherwise neither is independently notable.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 02:30, 12 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with Kintetsubuffalo. The other two articles are not notable outside the International Scout Centre. I urge our Sri Lankan friends to serious consider this issue and support a merge. --Bduke (Discussion) 08:12, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed the merge tags to reflect the new proposal that both 1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group and Old Rajans Scouts Association be merged to Lake View Park International Scout Centre. I have suggested that the discussion continues here. --Bduke (Discussion) 08:48, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mechanical merges

[edit]

I've performed three rather mechanical merges of all referenced material from the three articles mentioned in the post AfD banners at the head of this page. Further editing is required to smooth the article out. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 18:05, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion at Scouting Wikiproject

Merge proposal

[edit]

It has been proposed that both 1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group and Old Rajans Scouts Association be merged here. This is a continuation of a discussion at Talk:1st Kandy Dharmaraja Scout Group#Merger proposal so the discussion for both should continue there. --Bduke (Discussion) 08:38, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Support merge per nom.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 01:28, 22 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This proposal is now at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old Rajans Scouts Association (2nd nomination). --Bduke (Discussion) 03:23, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
