Is she of Jewish heritage? Badagnani (talk) 03:44, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Probably. It seems that Kantor is a Jewish last name; however, one probably needs a cite if you want to include her in the list of Jewish American journalists. --Tekhnofiend (talk) 03:55, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed content

[edit]

Hello! For a while now, I've been submitting a series of edit requests on behalf of The New York Times Company as part of my work at Beutler Ink, as evidenced by my profile page. I've disclosed my conflict of interest at the top of this page as well. This is my first request for this particular Wikipedia article.

I'd like to address some issues about Jodi_Kantor#Investigative_and_long-form_reporting, specifically the fourth paragraph. When The New York Times Company identified their concerns about this content, I noticed User:Bri had actually already worked on this section previously, but his edits were reverted. Brief summary:

  • July 26, 2020: User:Bri removed text per WP:RSPS with the edit summary, "Articles on LinkedIn Pulse written by LinkedIn users ar[e] self-published"
  • July 26, 2020: User:Bri removed text and added the edit summary, "I don't see why a corporate rebuttal belongs in this biography"
  • August 31, 2020: An unregistered editor added back the claims and inappropriate sources

I noticed Bri did not remove "Margaret Sullivan, the New York Times' Public Editor, also publicly disagreed with some of the statements and claims made by Kantor", but this text is also problematic and misrepresents sourcing. In fact, in the source used as a citation, she writes, "No serious questions (to my knowledge) have arisen about the hard facts. That's to The Times's credit."

I would argue all the content after "The article received mixed reviews and contained multiple inaccuracies..." within the paragraph is inappropriate from accuracy, neutral, and sourcing perspectives, and I don't seem to be alone in my thinking. Perhaps an anonymous editor has an axe to grind? @Bri: Do you mind taking a quick look and updating the section appropriately? I'm happy to address any questions or concerns you may have. I have one or two other minor requests for this article, but I'll keep this one focused on the disputed text specifically. Thank you! Inkian Jason (talk) 14:41, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I restored my original edits, not having heard a defense of their reversion by the anon. ☆ Bri (talk) 02:14, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Bri. I am curious if you have any thoughts re: "Margaret Sullivan, the New York Times' Public Editor, also publicly disagreed with some of the statements and claims made by Kantor." As I noted above, the citation actually says, "No serious questions (to my knowledge) have arisen about the hard facts. That's to The Times's credit." I'm not sure the article's current text accurately represents sourcing. Inkian Jason (talk) 14:43, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Whoisjohngalt: Hello! You've assisted me with New York Times-related requests previously, so I was wondering if you'd be willing to review this request as well. User:Bri has reverted two additions of inappropriate text, but my third concern here is the text highlighted in red, which misrepresents sourcing. To be clear, my request is to remove the text "Margaret Sullivan, the New York Times' Public Editor, also publicly disagreed with some of the statements and claims made by Kantor". The citation says, "No serious questions (to my knowledge) have arisen about the hard facts. That's to The Times's credit."

If you agree, can you remove the text on my behalf? Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 14:14, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would support the removal. This is they kind of WP:OR that constantly winds up in Wikipedia biographies. We need to state what the sources say, not our interpretation of them. --CNMall41 (talk) 18:00, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@CNMall41: Thanks for reviewing. Do you mind removing the sentence, or do I need to add Template:Request edit here for formal review? Inkian Jason (talk) 14:17, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind removing but was hoping for feedback from @Bri: prior since they have worked on this more recently. If I don't see a response from them in the next day or so I will take care of it. Hopefully that works for you. --CNMall41 (talk) 14:39, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, of course! Thank you. Inkian Jason (talk) 14:46, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the sentence per WP:SYNTH and WP:ONUS. Keep in mind that anyone wishing to return the content is able to do so if they are able to gain a consensus for it.
I understand. Thanks for your assistance. Inkian Jason (talk) 13:38, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox and introduction

[edit]
More recent headshot

Hello again! I'd like to submit another request for this article with two proposed improvements to the infobox/introduction.

1. First, in the infobox, I'd like to propose using the more recent headshot File:Jodi Kantor headshot.jpg.

2. Additionally, I propose adding to the following sentence to the end of the introduction:

Kantor is a 2018 recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for her reporting on Harvey Weinstein.

User:Escape Orbit removed the phrase "Pulitzer-prize winning" from the opening sentence in 2020, using the edit summary "plaudits do not belong in the lead sentence". Winning a Pulitzer is obviously a notable accomplishment, and adding the sentence I've proposed would help identify to readers what makes the subject notable without mentioning the award in the form of an adjective within the opening sentence. I'm pinging Escape Orbit here and welcome their feedback.

I'll also note, Template:Infobox person has an Awards field if the Pulitzer Prize is worth mentioning in the infobox. As a reminder, I'm submitting this request on behalf of The New York Times Company and appreciate editors for reviewing and updating the article on my behalf. Thanks for your consideration, Inkian Jason (talk) 14:48, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No problem at all with this being in the lead. Obviously notable. It just shouldn't be in the lead sentence. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 17:41, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Escape Orbit: Great, thanks for confirming. Are you willing to update the article's introduction and infobox on my behalf? I don't edit the main space directly because of my conflict of interest. Inkian Jason (talk) 18:18, 22 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 12:11, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
