Have tried my hand at shortening the synopsis - not sure if that's enough or if it's still too long, so I'm leaving the maintenance template up for now. MadameOctavian (talk) 07:48, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Links to historical figures in character list vs plot summary
Generally links should be linked at the first opportunity and there shouldn't be duplicate links in an article, but as it stands, links to characters' historical counterparts are pretty much all in the character list which is after the plot summary (e.g. Wu Zetian is linked in the character list, not in the plot summary). It's definitely useful to have the links in the character list as an easy reference for readers, but should there also be links in the plot summary at the first occurrence of those character names? There doesn't seem to be any guidance in the suggested structure for book articles about this, although the MOS does say that duplicate links are okay if it's helpful to readers.
