[edit]There's nothing but history in this article. It would be nice to know what settlements there are on the island, what people do for a living there, transportations, communications etc. --Unsound 02:50, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've added some things I know about Hemaey, but you are right, a lot more can be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.220.21.116 (talk) 19:56, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Most of the people fish (biggest industry), take part in tourism, or farm. I visited in 2001 and may visit again in a few weeks (depends on what happens on the trip to other parts of Iceland). The transport is listed on the page (I flew, I may take the ferry this time as I am likely to have a car). Every one has Internet on the island as do most Icelanders who are all literate and well educated. Most are capable of speaking English; the guy who used to have the office next to mine runs the University in Reykjavik and grew up in Akureyri. You can order order fried puffin on the menu of a couple Heimaey cafes. You can gain more info from travel guides like Lonely Planet. Heimaey is the only settlement. The place is very windy. 143.232.210.150 (talk) 18:46, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
The link for 'clefts' under Eldfell leads to cleft palate. Probably not the right clefts. kpeck1916 21:01, 24 May 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kpeck1916 (talk • contribs)
- I'm going to add my voice to Unsound's and recommend the article be expanded to include explanation of what life is like here. It's a small community, so it must be relatively easy and useful to characterize. How many people fish? What's the religion? How did a major golf course come to be there? I read it in a CNN article, but it can be seen from aerial images that a huge effort is being made to turn the new land useful. That's surely important, not just to the article, but to the larger world. Hey you Internet folks in Heimaey! Get on it! 24.6.156.141 (talk) 09:07, 9 July 2014 (UTC)
Merge?
[edit]There are two merge templates in the article since 4/2011. As no discussion to this topic has taken place since, I propose to remove those templates unless it is explained why and how the sections should be merged. --Danapit (talk) 12:21, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Headers/subheaders
[edit]I just edited the article to remove the word "Historical", which was just sitting alone in its own paragraph in the lead section. This made me think someone might've been trying to create a new section with the "Historical" header, so I went ahead and made a "History" header and moved the lingering paragraph to there. However, as it stands all three of the article's sections are about the Heimaey's history, so they could probably all be merged under the header "History", with "First settlers" and "Turkish raid" relegated to subheaders of that section. What does anyone else think? I'm honestly no expert at editing so I don't really know how to make sub-headers [if you even can? I swear I've seen them elsewhere on Wikipedia], most of the edits I make are just correcting spelling or grammar mistakes, removing flagrantly opinionated sentences/paragraphs and removing sentences that make extraordinary claims without sources, haha. 1.157.95.133 (talk) 09:32, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Nevermind, I figured out how to do it. It looks a little better now IMHO, but feel free to revert it to how it was before, or whatever else. xD 1.157.95.133 (talk) 09:35, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
