Tank

[edit]

As in here, there is a section for MMORPG's which list the various types of tanks in different games. I added the MMORPG section to bring attention to anyone that might know about this particular class in other games.

I also added a types section to help give various types of healing abilities that might exist in games.

  • There are absolutely no references of any sort in this article. I'm fairly sure it will be deleted if no one finds any. pseudo-facts like "some players think" don't really belong in a wikipedia article unless sourced. Felisse (talk) 17:17, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Healer (fantasy)

[edit]

The same concept occurs in works of fantasy fiction, but there doesn't appear to be a more general article for that. In order to disambiguate several links to healer from articles about fantasy works, I re-pointed them to healer (fantasy). Since this is a very closely-related concept, I created a redirect there to point here. At some point if someone does want to create a more appropriate article at healer (fantasy), the links will already be in place. Nick Number (talk) 21:41, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Healslut into Healer (video games)

[edit]

Thus far, the consensus is opposed to merging, so not merged. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 04:58, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I see a massive overlap between the idea of a video game healer and this term. To the point that there only really needs to be a "In sexuality" or "In sexual roleplay" section that describes the phenomenon of roleplaying as someone's sidekick. The healer article is also smaller than this one, so there is ample space to combine. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 17:09, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Totally disagree with a merge. The healer article is smaller right now, but that's more commentary on how this one should be expanded, as this healer article can definitely be expanded in other ways. For example, the History section - tagged as needing expansion since Sep. 2021 - is completely empty right now. Images also should be added. The Abilities and Roles sections are both very light and need citations. I'll see if I can try and get around to editing this one a bit, because it can be improved especially considering how broad of a concept the Healer-class is in video games.
The healslut article is long enough that a section on this one (even in an expanded version, but especially in the size it is now) would be undue weight. But more (perhaps much more) importantly, the healslut concept is distinct enough as per WP:SPINOFF / WP:CONSPLIT (even though I didn't actually spinoff any existing info from the healer article).
While there is the basic ground-level overlap, in that a healslut dynamic obviously needs to include a healer player, that article also talks about the kink aspect of it (in a considerable amount, at that). It's not an exclusively video game article, as there is obviously information that applies to sexology/sex studies topics and because of that I think merging would be a disservice. There is in my opinion, ample space on Wikipedia for these two articles to remain separate because while related, they are distinct concepts with full-fledged sourcing available. Soulbust (talk) 20:33, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In addition to my previous argument, I also think the article is confusing because a lay reader could assume you have to be kinky or want to be dominated to play as a healer main. There is a widespread phenomenon of healer mains who aren't necessarily doing it as a kink. [1] A section in the main article about healer mains, with an additional mention of people who do it for kinky reasons, would totally remove this confusion. I definitely don't debate that healsluts are notable on their own, but it's more easily explained in context. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 20:56, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's fair, and I was actually soon going to add in the healslut article that those players represent just a single community within the game, and that some in that community discuss non-kink topics in their communication external to the games they engage in.
I do think once the Healer article can be expanded, there should be a mention of healslutting, with sourcing for that link to the article you provided to help clear any confusion. I do think even currently, the healslut article is pretty clear in stating that those players select healer characters specifically to engage in such a kink dynamic, meaning that they aren't the only type of healer players that exist, though I will continue to edit that article. And so I'll add that distinction more explicitly in the prose when I next edit it. Soulbust (talk) 21:08, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've edited this article, fleshing it out a bit and developing a good start for further improvement and contributions to be made. This article is still a long ways away from being decently optimal (given the subject's broadness and the critical role it has in gaming), in my opinion. On the healslut article, I also added that healslutting is just a community within the larger healer-player community and that not all healer mains pick such characters for kinky reasons. I hope that helps in regards to any potential confusion you brought up.
Again, I think the healslut concept is distinct enough and clears notability criteria, and combined I think that definitely helps it warrant its own stand-alone article. Soulbust (talk) 11:43, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good job on the expansion; I also added a section on sexuality to the main article largely taking info from the other one. Still, I only think this backs up the merge argument; if fully fleshed-out, incorporating all the information from the sexuality article in a bit more condensed manner would still only be a small portion of the whole thing overall. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 16:02, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, I think the separate article works as per WP:CONSPLIT or WP:SPINOFF (even though again, I didn't actually/technically split it from this one). Kinda a feeling where I don't think healsluts are as vital to note (again just two or a few sentence would suffice imo) on this article as much as the healer-class is vital to note on the healslut article.
It's own distinct thing and the healslut article goes into the community around the concept, including terminology and their community-specific jargon, as well as their methods of engagement in order to go around potential terms of service violations. (In addition to other stuff that I don't feel like over-listing here). That's all info that I don't think has a place on this article b/c I think it'd fall under undue weight. But it's information that belongs on its own Healslut article, b/c that info is covered in a way that satisfies GNG requirements. I get what you're saying but yeah, respectfully strongly disagree with a merge in this case. Soulbust (talk) 16:17, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

After reading both articles, I oppose a merge, as I have concerns with WP:DUE if a merge occurs. QuicoleJR (talk) 20:09, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
