Requested move 19 April 2018
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved to Harvest Moon (2007 video game series) per consensus. Alexandra IDV explained logically regarding the YYYY format. Harvest Moon has been redirected to Full moon#Harvest moon. —usernamekiran(talk) 13:28, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Harvest Moon → Harvest Moon (2007– series) – The recent move is misleading. "Harvest Moon" should be a disambiguation page that briefly explains the difference between Story of Seasons and "Harvest Moon (2007– series)". See discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Video_games#Harvest_Moon_series_confusion. I'm also open to suggesstions on a better clarifier than "(2007– series)", but the previous Harvest Moon (Natsume series) is equally misleading because Natsume published the old Harvest Moon games. In truth a more descriptive disambig title would be "Harvest Moon (Natsume developed series)" but that is too long. TarkusABtalk 21:08, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

- Yes, but Harvest Moon should redirect to the disambiguation page there already is at Harvest moon (disambiguation). It shouldn't just explain the difference between those two things. For one thing there's a 2x platinum Neil Young album, Harvest Moon (album). I don't think the dash should be in the proposed title either. 128.135.96.56 (talk) 02:14, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- Oops, I must have missed how notable the album was. Per WP:DIFFCAPS the disambig should be moved to Harvest Moon.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 12:54, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- Support but to Harvest Moon (2007 video game series), "series" means TV to most of us. And move Harvest Moon (disambiguation) to baseline, as Mid-Autumn Festival is the main meaning. In ictu oculi (talk) 12:10, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- Per WP:NCVGDAB, the "video game" designation is unnecessary because there is no ambiguity due to no other "Harvest Moon" series. That said, I'd be OK with Harvest Moon (2007 series). TarkusABtalk 12:39, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- WP:NCVGDAB is a guideline made by video games editors without discussion with TV editors. It has no consensus outside the project. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:37, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- Right but there is no other "Harvest Moon" series to differentiate it from so I don't understand your argument. See Mana (series) (FA) and Halo (series) (GA) TarkusABtalk 21:49, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

Neutral on game article, but it must move so that Harvest moon (disambiguation) moves to Harvest Moon. -- Netoholic @ 20:16, 20 April 2018 (UTC)updated vote below- Oppose, but move Harvest Moon→Harvest Moon (video game series) and Harvest moon (disambiguation)→Harvest Moon - Using a year for a game series is awkward, as the series is a set of distinct game titles released in different years (and so it differs from things like TV series that are continuations of the same title). And in this case, its not even needed as we have an open title. Hatnote can direct people to the Story of Seasons series, and having the dab at primary will help also. -- Netoholic @ 06:26, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
- Support a move of some kind. The state of "Harvest Moon" being the current video game series seems like a classic case of recency bias, as even within the gaming industry, the most likely primary topic for that title seems to still be the old series. ONR (talk) 00:56, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
- Support move to Harvest Moon (2007 video game series). Redirect Harvest Moon to Full moon#Harvest moon. Clear primary topic whether capitalised or not. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:16, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- Again per WP:NCVGDAB, the "video game" designation is unnecessary. Harvest Moon (2007 series) is preferred. TarkusABtalk 20:46, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- Since we use "TV series", I don't think "series" is good enough. There's no reason to disambiguate video game series less specifically than TV series; that would carry some strange implication that video games are more significant because we don't need to specify what sort of series we're talking about. As In ictu oculi says, this naming convention seems to have been agreed without wider discussion and makes little sense in a wider context. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:26, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

- Support moving so that "Harvest Moon" redirects to Harvest moon (disambiguation). Neutral on what the title of the video game article is named. Rreagan007 (talk) 19:36, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- Support. Both of the game series are best known as "Harvest Moon", neither is clearly the primary topic, and you need to disambiguate between the two somehow. As Natsume has published both, "Natsume series" does not work as disambiguation, so I support the YYYY– solution. Whether "video game series" or "series" is appropriate in general is not something that can or should be decided here, I think - I would move this article "series" for now and do a separate discussion specifically about whether "series" is appropriate as disambiguation for a game series, and then apply whatever is decided upon on every series article.--Alexandra IDVtalk 10:58, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
- Support Making "Harvest Moon" a disambig and moving this to a disambiguated page. Prefer (2007 series) over (2007 video game series) - that is what the current guidelines for non-conflicting video game series say, and this isn't the venue to change that - but it should get moved regardless. --PresN 16:59, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
- Comment - would there be any support for simply having separate Harvest Moon (series) and Story of Seasons articles? I'm aware of what happened, but it may be the least confusing way for new readers to understand it. Harvest Moon would include both the original Natsume series as well as the post-Story of Seasons Marvelous games, while Story of Seasons would only include games released under that specific brand title. Thoughts? ~ Dissident93 (talk) 22:09, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
- For newcomer readers, I think the confusion would be worst if we try to name it that way. When people look up Harvest Moon, its usually the original series. So when someone looks up "Harvest Moon (series)" and get confused that its not the one they were looking for. it'll be easier for new readers to understand that there are two series that use that name. I also think there's hardly any info on both page. if both were covered properly, it would make it easier for new readers to understand. But until then, I still think its a good idea to call them harvest moon (1996 series) and harvest moon (2007 series.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 23:22, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
- I don't know. Doing that way requires you to write many of the same information on both pages, while still being a bit hard to understand at first. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 22:09, 28 April 2018 (UTC)

Switch Release of Harvest Moon: Light of Hope
[edit]Per the Nintendo online store, the switch version of the game was released on 5/29/18. I thought it would make sense to include date rather than just year, but am confused at the current page template/table setup. Is it fine to include a platform specific date for this? The way its organized as-is post-merger seems more confusing then having each game as its own page. Shaded0 (talk) 19:19, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Shaded0: The list is just a high level reference of what Harvest Moon games exist and for what systems they were made available. We should keep the formatting consistent and just list the year here. If we go down the path of adding full release dates, the page will quickly delve into deeper catalog territory, which we don't want. Don't forget that most release dates differ between region, meaning at least 2-3 dates for each release. The list will quickly get bloated. If the game meets notability guidelines, it could certainly have its own page. Save the release date "cataloging" for List of Switch games. TarkusABtalk 19:29, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
- Fair enough, those are all valid points. Thanks. Shaded0 (talk) 15:17, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
2007 or 2014?
[edit]The game includes Puzzle De Harvest Moon(2007) and Harvest Moon Frantic Farming(2009) as part of the new series continued by Natsume but the departure from Marvelous didn't happen until 2014. I would imagine before 2014 that even though these games were published by Natsume, Marvelous still owned the license. Either way, the article doesn't do any effort to clarify how these games were made before the re-brand/IP takeover. I checked the official webpage of Natsume to see if we can get clarity and i'm not getting any concrete information. For example, they still list older Story of Season games including the store section for DS. And the games they published without Marvelous don't show up in their own store either. very peculiar situation.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 18:02, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
- I personally don't quite agree with how this is set up. I think that the series should simply be switched back to a normal Harvest Moon (series) and Story of Seasons to make it less confusing, but with Story of Seasons only containing the games under that name.
- While technically Harvest Moon got hijacked by a different company, it's still Harvest Moon. All we need to do is highlight the "original series" and "new series" within it, while pointing readers to Story of Seasons for the original developers. The games didn't retroactively change to Story of Seasons games, so the distinction we are making here is arbitrary and motivated by fans. Plenty of IPs change developers over the course of their lifespan, I don't see why this should be an exception.
- Also I realize I was the one who proposed it 5 years ago, but that was a while back and I kinda regret it now. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 19:12, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm: It's quite confusing but owning the IP and owning the rights to the name are two different things. Old Harvest Moon and Story of Seasons are both "Bokujō Monogatari". When Marvelous stopped using Natsume for publishing, they don't own the previous games before nor the new ones, they repurposed Harvest Moon to be their own separate IP. The problem is that Natsume really wants people to believe the games before are "their" games when they were just published. And yes, some games are being changed to Story of Seasons, one example is Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life and Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town have been remade with the new Story of Seasons.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 19:29, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. Then I guess I was correct, just forgot the full circumstances of it.
- And to answer your question, the title screen of Puzzle de Harvest Moon says "characters licensed from Marvelous" so it does confirm Marvelous owned the license at that time. It seems listed on the Harvest Moon page simply because it was published by Natsume, despite the license changing hands later. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 19:36, 5 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm: So should we remove them as part of this series and rename it to 2014 series?Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 03:50, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Blue Pumpkin Pie: I would tend to agree. The older ones are technically spin-offs of the (currently) Story of Seasons series, not part of the separate series with the same name. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 04:26, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
- I'll give it a few more days to see if anyone objects to the information found. I so far can't find any.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 19:19, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
