What the heck does the trend of featuring less HUD's on-screen have to do with them allegedly burning permanently into the screen inner coating? I've never heard nor read anything to that effect. In fact I for one kept pointing it out to fellow gamers in arcades seeing that large-screens suffer from permanent damage but only because only the same game is ever projected through those. As for consumers not smart enough to realise pausing the game for prolonged hours may actually damage their televisions I believe they're in the minority and hardly influencial with game makers anywhere.
- I think you'll find those are two seperate sections... arcade cabinets rarely screenburn, due to demo mode. HUDs, when left on the screen in-game for a long length of time with no variation (ie. a health bar's outline) will eventually cause screenburn. This is why it's listed under "Miscellaneous". - I often saw burn-in effect on the CRT monitors which has been used in arcade cabinets many years. But these burned-in areas was not from HUD, but from some statics elements of the whole interface (for example slots in the slots machine). About LCD: I saw only one LCD monitor with burn-in areas and they was from big buttons on the Title screen of payment terminal (for example: 1). I think that for LCD this effects depends from matrix quality maybe. I using my LCD monitor maybe 6 years and I don't see burn-in shapes from Windows Start-button and taskbar which is situated on the same place. 195.234.108.235 (talk) 17:07, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
- I don't even think that happens anymore with LCD monitors, at least not very fast. Wolfos1232 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:50, 18 October 2010 (UTC).
Actually I edited it right after I posted the above. Sorry new to Wikipedia - PhakeDC.
I think this game lacks a screenshot of the very basic HUD from earlier games. Like Doom, or Half-life. just so people have the feeling of how it developed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.222.29.100 (talk) 10:55, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Title / OS HUD
[edit]There is a section about the HUD in MAC OS X software. However, the article is about the HUD in video games. I suggest this section be removed or the title being changed... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lars JJ (talk • contribs) 11:13, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
MAC OS X section
[edit]I moved the section about the HUD in MAC OS X to a new article, HUD (computing). This sections is about the HUD in gaming, so it seemed like the logical thing to do. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lars JJ (talk • contribs) 17:06, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

HUD (video gaming) → Video game HUD – Preferable natural disambiguation, per WP:NATURAL. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 09:27, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose - VERY un-WP:NATURAL. The sources of the article (light as they are) all describe it as "the HUD", "a HUD", or "HUDs" - not as proposed. Searching for the exact phrase "Video game HUD" on Google Books comes back with an abysmally small selection, compared to a search using broader terms. -- Netoholic @ 09:49, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose as above - current title conforms to usual formatting. No benefit in a rename. Bungle (talk • contribs) 19:22, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

OSD
[edit]I searched on the net the difference between HUD and OSD with no luck. I thought the difference would be on explained on Wikipedia. I think they might be synonyms, but both pages do not talk about the other. 24.157.141.121 (talk) 17:51, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
