Requested move 23 September 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Gruppa krovi (album) → Gruppa krovi – This is the only Gruppa krovi. However, when I try to move this article myself, Wikipedia tells me its not possible because an article with the name "Gruppa krovi" already exists. But it appears to be this very article? Holidayruin (talk) 11:25, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
- Support as a mostly technical matter. JIP | Talk 17:01, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
- Speedy move, will request as such since there doesn't appear to be any other uses. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:12, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
Source [8] and the claim that the English version of "Gruppa Krovi" was done at the request of a fan
[edit]I may be splitting hairs, but I checked the archived site linked in source [8] (https://web.archive.org/web/20100523172231/http://www.nme.com/awards/video/id/M07ohW5PIyE/search/gruppa), and as far as I can tell, it doesn't contain any claims about what motivated Tsoi to record an English version.
In the Russian page for this album, they cite this (http://www.yahha.com/faq.php?myfaq=yes&id_cat=4) interview with Rashid Nugmanov, a film director who worked with Tsoi on "The Needle" (1988), and he claims the English version of Gruppa Krovi was the idea of Joanna Stingray, the US producer of Gruppa Krovi:
"Это идея Джоанны, насколько я знаю. Бытовало такое мнение (поддержанное, кстати, тем же журналом SPIN), что «Кино» – единственная из советских рок-групп, которая имела реальные шансы на успех в Америке (опыт БГ, как помните, был не очень удачен). Но чтобы это случилось, песни якобы должны быть непременно на английском. Вот Виктор и попробовал."
"It was Joanna's idea, as far as I know. There was the view at the time (also advanced by SPIN magazine, by the way) that "Kino" was the only soviet rock-band which had a real chance at success in America (Boris Grebenshchikov's attempt, as you recall, wasn't too fortunate). But for that to happen, the songs supposedly needed to be in English. So Viktor gave it a shot." (Translation mine)
So I guess you can say that technically it was at the request of a fan, if we consider Tsoi's producer to be a fan of his. The connotations, however, are very different, I think: saying that it was "done for a fan" suggests that Victor was very attentive and receptive to his US fans, while Nugamov's account makes it sound more like an experimental business strategy.
Does anyone have more info on where the "recorded for a fan" claim comes from? Halucygeno (talk) 09:51, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
Album cover
[edit]Which is officially the cover of the album? The beige one or the gray one? Somebody on Reddit just asked about the album cover. Ahri Boy (talk) 03:39, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- Beige one seems to be have been used originally. The earliest release with a catalog number looks to be from Gold Castle Records in the US. Discogs has more information. Mellk (talk) 20:02, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
