Data of Birth

[edit]

I'm unable to find consistent sources for date of birth (DOB). Currently the article says that it's July 31, 1988. As far as the year is concerned, the two sources don't agree. Source #1 ( http://www.capebretonpost.com/Living/2011-05-12/article-2502302/Doing-A-O-Kay/1 ) refers to her as a "23-year-old Reserve Mines native" and was published on May 12, 2011. Source #2 ( http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/n-s-youtube-sensation-records-first-album-in-l-a-1.1095116 ) Says she's 22 and was posted on May 07, 2011. Unless the correct DOB is after May 7, 1988 but before May 12, 1988, one of these must be wrong. If they're both right, then the July 31 DOB is wrong. Boutilier has a lot of material on social media. I found two references to her birthday (although not the year). Source #3 ( https://www.facebook.com/Kaymusik/posts/10151140818736882 ) is from her Facebook fan page, which definitely seems to be a post from Boutilier herself. On July 31, 2012, she wrote, "THANK YOU FOR ALL THE BDAY WISHES:):) I LOVE YOU!!!!!" This is consistent with the date that's listed now, although technically it doesn't say that that's the correct date. It merely acknowledges that others believe it to be. I wondered if that could have been only because people were relying on the wikipedia entry, but the July 31 date wasn't on the page at the time. It looks as if it was added May 19 of this year (about two years after Source #3). There's also an Instagram post made by Boutilier, Source #4 ( http://instagram.com/p/JShwLtzFkI/ ), that was posted on April 11, 2012 in which she writes "Happy birthday to meee!!!" This seems to be a pretty clear indication that her DOB is April 11, except that she casts doubt upon that when she later adds, "May have just said that to get free dessert at this restaurant #winkyface" Honestly, the correct date isn't all that important in itself, but having wikipedia give accurate information is. I'm leaving the July 31 date, but that's a judgment call and I have little confidence in its accuracy.

There has been edit-warring back and forth about her birth year, and it's difficult to know whether someone is trying to mess with us. (I believe I may have reverted some edits in error last month; my apologies if I did.) The IP 69.26.142.207 (who is possibly also User:DougBohay) posted on my talk page "I am Kay's agent and I have seen her I.D. and passport. Her birthdate is July 31st 1988." This is at least not contradicted by what the CBC reported, which is that she was age 22 in May 2011. It is possible that the Cape Breton Post got her age wrong. High School

[edit]

I've found three dates for when she graduated: 2002, 2003, and 2005. The last seems most likely. It's most consistent with the 1988 DOB, the source is her label (which presumably got the information directly), and it is the only date of the three consistent with the Cape Breton Post saying in 2011, that she"left the island after graduating from Holy Angels High School about five years ago" OckRaz talk 15:27, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date

[edit]

I've gone ahead and removed the birthdate per WP:BLP as there are too many conflicting sources combined with what appears to be several years of original research thrown in. Her birth date originally said 1985, which seems unlikely if she graduated high school in Nova Scotia in 2005, as that would make her 20. 1991 would be close to impossible because that would mean she graduated at 14 and I'm fairly sure there'd be coverage of that. Praxidicae (talk) 13:41, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There are two generally reliable sources explicitly giving her age: CBC: 22 and Cape Breton Post: 23, both in May 2011. Since the day and month of birth (July 31), while unsourced and thus unsuitable for the article, seems undisputed, I rather don't think that those sources are both correct (if they were, she'd have to have a date of birth between May 8 and May 12, 1988). Those sources do indicate that she wasn't born in 1991, though, and neither was she born in 1985. I thus endorse the removal of the birthdate unless and until better sources can be found. 15:40, 14 May 2019 (UTC)

Kay (singer)Goldie Boutilier – This page is about Canadian-born singer Kristin Boutilier, whose changed her stage name various times throughout her career. However, as of October 2020 her legal name is Goldie Boutilier. She has also used this name when she re-released her most recent project, Very Best. As it is both her legal name and now her name for her music and modeling, it should be the name of the article concerning her as she hasn't used the name Kay since 2013. @Noahalterlife given that you have moved the page unilaterally, and there's no conversation here yet, would you want to close off this? – robertsky (talk) 04:50, 20 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
