Assessment comment

[edit]

Hi, first of all, thanks for contributing to Wikipedia and working on this article. I assessed the article to "Start"-Class and I have some suggestions for improving it.

  1. Non-free images need to follow the Non-free content criteria, I removed the non-free images because they fail the requirement for non-free material to "significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic" and that its "omission would be detrimental to that understanding". CD covers and billboards do neither.
  2. Reliable sources need to be used, that means "reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy". Currently the article has unfortunately none of those, but relies on the stuff from game-show and cooking tv episodes. Information based on newspaper articles or other published sources is needed. Trivial info, like what her name stands for, can still be cited by her artist website, but it is not necessarily a good source for other info.
  3. Per WP:ELNEVER linking to to material that violates copyright is considered contributory copyright infringement, which is why I removed the YouTube clip of the TV report. Content on the website of the copyright holder (the TV station) can be linked to.
  4. The articles uses peacock terms, as in "famous drama", "major competition" - these should always be avoided, and instead it should be described why things are important etc., using reliable sources.
  5. Apart from needing sources the article needs to have more substantial content for a higher rating. It consists mainly of lists as of now. The awards section lists a lot of awards but they are not sourced at all and with quite a few it is not clear that they are notable.
  6. The lead should summarize the article. The article has not much content but the lead should at least establish why she is considered notable (compare WP:MUSICBIO).

There were many citations to the Chinese Wikipedia added. Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source so these citations should be removed. Her record label website should only be used for trivial citations and is not a reliable source. YesAsia looks like a trader, comparable to amazon.com, which is not considered a reliable source. Other sources include the artist's blog at xanga.com, which is also not considered a reliable source. Facebook is not reliable either. The ifpihk.org, Sun Daily, and Oriental Daily News look good. I added a template under the banners that makes searching for more reliable sources easier. Unfortunately it seems as though there are almost no English language reliable sources. Reassessment

[edit]

I'm reassessing this article to C based on it falling short to the B class criteria.

  1. The article is suitably referenced, with inline citations where necessary.
Inline citations are well covered except the Music pop chart section. Some of the sources such as ones from yesasia.com and xanga.com are questionable to be reliable sources. Not a requirement for B class, but for good practice, web citation should include accessdate and title, also avoid including just the url.
  2. The article reasonably covers the topic, and does not contain obvious omissions or inaccuracies.
    All sections are well covered.
  3. The article has a defined structure.
Lead section is too short, see WP:LEAD. For an article of this size, I would recommend 2-3 solid paragraph that summarize every sections.
  4. The article is reasonably well-written.
    It probably needs WP:COPYEDIT.
  5. The article contains supporting materials where appropriate.
    Article structure is well organized.
  6. The article presents its content in an appropriately understandable way.
    Same as 4.

After the matter was raised at Talk:18... I have moved the title from Gem (singer) to G.E.M. (singer) per SCMP and other print sources. If anyone objects, WP:BRD by all means. In ictu oculi (talk) 09:08, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing

[edit]

I have removed unsourced content from this biography of a living person. There is probably unreliably sourced content remaining. I have no objections to restoring the content if it is supported by reliable sources. — JJMC89(T·C) 04:52, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Should I remove unused reference

[edit]

I noticed that there is a unused reference that is resulting in a error that is visible at the bottom of the article. Should I remove this reference? Linxgos (talk) 21:11, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
