You Spoony Bard!

I've always wondered. What on earth is "spoony" supposed to mean? Anyone know? Heh --Kiyosuki 05:40, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Spoony means foolishly in love or excessively sentimental, which Edward/Gilbert certainly was. So, it is not really a mistranslation, just something Woolsey thought was funny that wouldn't be censored by Nintendo (as opposed to, say, "you son of a bitch," as in the j2e translation). While the バ in ギルバート does make the sound "ba," ギルバート is the common Japanese rendering of the name Gilbert. Also, there are more instances online of the characters's name being "Gilbert" than "Gilbart." This is so even if the search is limited to pages written in Japanese. I changed the spelling to the more common one, but if anyone has any official sources in which his name is spelled with an a, feel free to change it back and site your source. 6 October 2006

Never mind, I took a look at the edit history and saw that someone already cited the official Square-Enix site as a source for his name being Gilbart, so I changed the spelling back and added a citation in the actual article. 6 October 2006
