Propose page move

[edit]

Considering the game is moving even further away from the volleyball aesthetic and that both trailers and interviews with Itagaki seem to have embraced Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 as the official title.

Also adding to the main page a bit in light of new info. Papacha 22:04, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Initiated the page move. If it should turn out the full title was as listed previous it should be a cinch to change it back. Papacha 20:09, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Negative light?

[edit]

"Creator Tomonobu Itagaki is against ever adding activities like trampoline games and wet t-shirt contests to the series, as he feels they would come off as vulgar and "show the women in a negative light".

(quoted for emphasis)

So what he's saying is that both it (the XBV series, or better yet the entire DOA series), and they (the women) haven't already? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 4.245.173.64 (talkcontribs) .

Yes, hence the two-fold quotes *before* they were quoted for emphasis.

From his IGN interview...
IGN: Is there by chance a trampoline game in DOAX2? We think that would be an :excellent addition to the mini-games.
Itagaki: So we have to pick from a long list of minigame ideas and I'm pretty sure trampoline minigames were part of the initial list, but we didn't pick it. That's because of the kind of game that DOAX2 is; we have to be really careful not to make it seem vulgar. Certain activities show the women in a negative light.
So it's not so much about bouncing per say. The key to the game is love. When they love the character, how do they feel when they see the character do whatever she's doing? We don't want to make them feel bad.

(later)

IGN: It seems like that game is ripe for a wet t-shirt contest.
Itagaki: Well, it becomes the issue of love again.
IGN: So that's too far?
Itagaki: You don't want your girlfriend being seen in a wet T-shirt contest, right?
IGN: No, not mine. But it's OK for me to see other people's girlfriends... (Laughter.)

So he believes there's a line between fan-service to the überity and full-on ecchi that he and fans DON'T want to see crossed. Hard to grasp maybe - given some of the games' content - but the difference between being "playful" and an all-out boobs a-poppin'/yuri sex-fest is important to him; he doesn't want to officially categorize the girls in that way, and thinks the majority of the fanbase (hentai artists be damned) feel the same. IGN are total idiots! Further, this just proves my point of the entire Dead or Alive series, (at least in part) because of the XBV games, existing only for the purpose of male affirmation (not to mention Itadaki/Team Ninja/Tecmo's own self-gratification). Or at least, that's what I would say if I was someone who was completely ignorant and/or outraged. In any event, I personally think that the series' fate was sealed with the first XBV game. As for the "difference between being "playful" and an all-out boobs a-poppin'/yuri sex-fest" as you put it, no offense to you or anyone else, but to a number of people, there really isn't that much of a difference. I'm sorry, if I offended you, but computerized female characters with realistic-looking beauty are not what makes a video game. :( —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.245.236.128 (talkcontribs)
Why I would be offended by someone else's thoughts on a video game is beyond my scope, especially since the viewpoint wasn't mine to begin with. If I was that short I'd prolly have a beef with your pithy "HAWT GIRRRL =/ GREAT GAME" comment you fingered me with (EEK!) while giving Itagaki's thoughts on the matter.
If you still want my two cents (give me three back in change, all's I gots is a nickel) both extremes are being silly. Scary affection to a VG character - to the point where you think of them as your bump-mapped girlfriend ZOMG PUT THE CUCUMBERS DOWN HITOMI~!! - and the outcry over simulated bouncing in an M-rated video game, one that doesn't even go as far as some PG-13 movies, daytime soap operas, or Entertainment Tonight, are equally vapid. Seems it's being targeted for attack *because* it's a video game, when real-life breastesses - and the chicks they belong to by proxy - are there for the degradating. The interview's indication also is nullified when you remember that they included pole-dancing into the game. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 22:22, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why is the European cover up?

[edit]

It should be replaced with the North American cover.

Why? - The 4th Snake 19:32, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Does this game affect DOA4?

[edit]

I read somewhere (could have been on this site) that both DOA4 and DOAX2 affect each other in some way. Is this true? If it is, I think there should be a section about it in both articles. - The 4th Snake 19:34, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
