Talk:D.I.C.E. Award for Mobile Game of the Year
Should we include the Handheld Game of the Year?
[edit]For the original author of this Wiki page, I highly recommend that we should include the "Handheld Game of the Year" nominees and winners as part of this article. For one, handheld and mobile games have essentially the same target audience and similar gameplay style and handling. Plus, there has been a time when handheld and mobile games were presented into one singular category before splitting off again. This would give an opportunity to highlight other games that had won (and were nominated) for the handheld category in the earlier years of the IAA/DICE awards (such as "Advance Wars", "Final Fantasy Tactics Advance", the GBA "Metroid" games, "Super Mario 3D Land", "Helldivers", etc.). Since the handheld category ended with the discontinuation of the 3DS, it does not affect the status of Mobile GOTY now that downloadable mobile games exclusively take this category. Plus, I noticed that another DICE genre Wiki page, winning and nominated games for "Children's Title/Game of the Year" was included as part of "Family Game of the Year" tally, so it stands to reason that handheld games should be mentioned alongside mobile games. Let me know if you agree with the idea. Tommybone32 (talk) 17:36, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- My original plan was to make a separate article for "Handheld Game of the Year" along with several other long-running, discontinued categories. Among those included "Children's Title/Game of the Year". The reason I included Children's T/GOTY" to Family GOTY was due to conflicting listings for the category 5th awards ceremony on the academy's website. As well as the fact that the rules & procedures for the 6th award ceremony listed Children's TOTY for console and computer, but a single Family GOTY, that included console and pc games, was offered. However, I am now reconsidering on having a separate page for "Handheld Game of the Year". Either way it would probably have to wait until after the announcement of the 27th D.I.C.E. finalists, which should be announced this upcoming week. MR.RockGamer17 (talk) 18:50, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Sounds good, I can help you with that if you ever decided on creating such a page. Tommybone32 (talk) 20:23, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
