This is my first ever creation of a new Wikipedia article. It may take me a little while before it is ready for use and then I'll remove the "Under Construction" tag. OK, I've now done enough work on it to remove the "Under Construction" tag. Admittedly I still have further work to do in the coming days, tidying it up and certanly adding further citations. It still has a few rough edges and certainly there is much room for improvement. But, hopefully this is enough at the moment to prevent immediate deletion? I'm still learning the basics of the wiki syntax so any tips/edits from experienced Wikipedians most welcomed, particularly if there are any glaring errors or violations of convention here! -- Benkid77 (talk) 20:22, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Added a section "Example submission screenshots". So far I've only uploaded screenshots of games I developed myself. This is because I didn't need to bother contacting anyone else to get permission to release the screenshots under free licenses, thus saving time. However, if anyone else who submitted games would like to upload their screenshots to Wikimedia Commons under a free license, then it'd be great to see some others on the page too. -- Benkid77 (talk) 17:07, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Does the competition have any influence from Your Sinclair's "Crap Games Corner"? I would also like to know how significant the "mention" in Retro Gamer is. The brief namedrop on the Guardian blog does not satisfy WP:GNG (they literally do not say anything about the competition) so this all rather hinges on what Retro Gamer had to say. Hi, on your question of Your Sinclair's "Crap Games Corner"? it appears that the competition was indeed influenced by it.

The CSSCGC 2006 and CSSCGC 2009 websites both have this following paragraph (from an even earlier CSSCGC website):-

"Drawing inspiration from Rich Pelley's Crap Game Corner from YS and the aforementioned Cascade monstrosity, it's gone from strength to strength (or something) over the years, with some of the worst games ever created being entered."

I can certainly update the introductory paragraph to reflect this information.

Having read the WP:GNG page for the first time, I take your point about the Guardian online blog reference, I will now remove it from the page.

As for the Retro Gamer mention. I don't own that edition of the magazine myself, I only read of the mention from other forum and newsgroup members in the ZX Spectrum community. So, I have made a further forum post today asking for the exact wording of the mention from people who do have a copy of that edition. Again, if this isn't suitable for Wikipedia then I will certainly remove the mention from the page - but I'm hoping to gain further information on this. Benkid77 (talk) 10:22, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

The page says "Each year, the designated judge has full responsibility for developing and hosting the competition website", which isn't true. In 2005 I hosted the competition, but The Starglider was the judge. --DeKay01 (talk) 16:14, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi DeKay01, I agree with your changes, sorry that was my fault (My previous Wikipedia account was benkid77). At the time I based the article on what was standard practice at the time of writing the article. I wasn't aware then that things used to be different before then. Also this was my first ever Wikipedia article (Which is why it is in such a mess). Two years later, I (hopefully) have a far better idea of how to write an accurate article and would now only add stuff I have definite citations for. Also I would not use open editable forums and suchlike for citations. This article porobably needs an entire re-write, but I'm just too busy with other projects to tackle it at the moment. Retro Gamer reference currently unverifiable

Posts by me on multiple forums to try and obtain more solid information on the original Retro Gamer reference have not yielded anything concrete after a little over a day or so. I haven't completely discounted the posssibilty that some further info may turn up, but in lieu of having the actual magazine to hand, I accept that the reference is currenty unverifiable.

So, assuming for the moment that the reference is no longer usable, I instead focus the search on alternative, currently verifiable references. So far I have found references to the CSSCGC competition on the established website "oldschool-gaming" at http://www.oldschool-gaming.com/news.php going back to 2004. Presumably these references were written by an administrator of that website. I am unsure if that link would be suitable for a citation supporting notability. However, I suspect it may again fall short of the WP:GNG guidelines as the Guardian online blog article did and for similar reasons. Also, there are mentions of the competition on another established website, raww.org (some of them posted by myself back in 2008), but again nothing going into any great detail about the competition. So, I completely concur that the need for further, verifiable citations still exists at this point. Other established sites which mention the competition are included in the existing references on the article page. (e.g. "Crap Game Finder" website). Benkid77 (talk) 20:38, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
