Martinet's age

[edit]

Is there a good source for when Martinet was born? Several online sources say he was born on September 17, 1955 (making him 66), but they don't seem reliable enough to use on a BLP on Wikipedia. Glades12 (talk) 12:51, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, and folks are persisting in adding his WP:DOB without sources or the flimsiest of sources. Please don't add his DOB unless you have a solid source.Toddst1 (talk) 05:01, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Martinet responding to someone on Twitter that posted his full birthday isn't a reliable source? He acknowledged it to be the correct date. --Exsaltedge (talk) 03:54, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The 9th reference on this page is a private video.

A series of high quality photos of Charles, more closely reflecting his current appearance, were uploaded to Flickr and as far as I can tell are creative commons (link here). Could a photo from this set be uploaded and used for his page? All though I do recognize not many of these give a clear shot of his face, I'm sure you can see his appearance has changed quite some bit from the photo currently in use. 77.97.51.70 (talk) 23:55, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: All it seems is he's let his hair grow longer, also those photos don't highlight him very clearly. He either has is eyes closed or is moving so there's blur. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 18:03, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Martinet's website forces download.

[edit]

When following the link to his personal website, a download of a video file called "Coroorate1.mov" is started immediately an without any warning or notification. A disclaimer with the link might be a good idea. 2003:E7:EF28:E02E:D30:47E3:8D26:2A38 (talk) 07:06, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh wow, classic, trying to play audio upon page load. The content is very weird.. I think this can technically be considered normal webpage content? Less than 30MB might be considered acceptable too. It's deeply weird though, and a warning might be a good idea. We don't really have a standardized way of putting up such messages on links. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 07:35, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any chance if someone can update his occupation section in the infobox? Because not only does Martinet work as an actor and voice artist, according to his website, it says he also works as a trade show presenter according here:http://charlesmartinet.com/tradeshow.html, this is the only reliable source that talks about his work as a trade show presenter. 2607:FB91:21E6:487C:3C3F:FA71:BE44:3D6E (talk) 13:57, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: If that's the only source that mentions it, then his work as a trade show presenter is not particularly notable and we should not include it in the infobox Cannolis (talk) 17:51, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Since he’s beginning a new career as a Nintendo ambassador, is there any chance we can include ambassador in his occupation section now in the infobox? If so, can someone add it in there by any chance? 2607:FB91:21C9:975:A1B7:AC14:719B:EC76 (talk) 01:43, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1. Change filmography credits for SSX on Tour and Super Princess Peach from “Mario” to “Mario, Luigi”, as well change credits for Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 from “Mario” to “Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi”.

In the filmography, Martinet is listed as portraying Mario in SSX on Tour (2005), Super Princess Peach (2005), and Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 (2007), but not for portraying Luigi. All 3 games are listed without any reference, and while the former two credit Martinet in-game, they do not specifically say which character(s) he is portraying, meaning there is no in-game confirmation that he is portraying either Mario or Luigi in particular (or both, which is very likely the case). However, as Martinet is credited as portraying Mario in all 3 games, and Luigi also appears in and is voiced in all 3 games, I would argue it is equally well-sourced that it was Martinet voicing Luigi as that it was him voicing Mario, so it would be appropriate to either remove the listing for Mario or, ideally, add it for Luigi.

This also goes for Wario and Waluigi in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 by the same token.

2. Change filmography credits for Mario Tennis: Power Tour from “Mario, Luigi, Waluigi” to “Mario, Luigi, Waluigi, Wario”

While Wario is not a character who physically appears in game, his voice is used for the callout of “Nintendo” in the game’s opening sequence, preceding the callout of “Camelot” by Waluigi. This is confirmed to be Wario on the basis that Wario was physically seen uttering the same voice clip in the openings for the GameCube titles Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and Mario Power Tennis. As such, I would say that Wario should be listed here for the reuse of that voice clip of Martinet portraying Wario.

3. Change filmography credits for Luigi’s Mansion 3 from “Mario, Luigi” to “Luigi, Mario”

The current order is “Mario, Luigi”, but for the other 2 main Luigi’s Mansion games, Luigi is listed first to reflect his being the main character, just as Mario is listed first for the numerous games in which he is the main character. While the information doesn’t change with how it is ordered, I nonetheless suggest switching the order to be “Luigi, Mario” for consistency. Pk62001 (talk) 21:15, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

With 1 and 2, I think relying on your reasoning would violate Wikipedia:No original research, but there appear to be sources backing up your statements, so I'll add and use such sources when I get a chance, probably in about 12 hours.
With 3, it looks like the source used actually has them in the order you want, so I'm not sure why it's in the opposite order. I'll fix that too.

Change filmography listing for Mario Kart Arcade GP from “Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi” to “Mario, Luigi, Wario”.

Waluigi doesn’t appear in the game at all, so there’s no way he was voicing Waluigi there. This statement lines up with the information we have on the article for the Mario Kart Arcade GP games (Mario Kart Arcade GP), which is that he was newly added in Mario Kart Arcade GP 2. Pk62001 (talk) 22:51, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: I'm assuming you're talking about the entry for Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, as the entry for the first game doesn't list Waluigi. The change you're requesting contradicts the source cited for that entry (complete with a picture). TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 16:04, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The father of Charles Martinet appears to be Jacques R. Martinet according to a birth announcement from the San Jose Mercury in September 1955. Here is a source from Metro Silicon Valley: https://www.metrosiliconvalley.com/super-speech/

Can you add this to the Early life section regarding his birth? 47.14.165.127 (talk) 17:16, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Good find! It looks like that source was actually already used, but poorly. I've tried to make better use of it. I also added https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzEsygrdyGU and https://archive.org/details/biographytodayge0000unse_k9t0 to provide sources for some information with no citation, and added some more info while I was at it. Here's my edit: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?diff=1193616909&oldid=1191898128&title=Charles_Martinet
I'm sure the sources in that section could still be mined for additional information, though.

English dub of video game missing from filmography

[edit]

Charles Martinet provided the voice for the Marshal in the 2002 video game Magic Pengel: The Quest for Color. This can be seen in this playthrough at the 34:34 time mark: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sz_PH2mq4Hg. This is not yet credited in Charles Martinet's filmography- Video Games section. Changing actor to voice actor in opening sentence

[edit]

As this is a somewhat major change I just made, I wanted to start a comment thread just in case anyone would object. Previous to just now, the opening sentence of this article said he was "an American actor." I would argue that actor usually implies visual actor (as in, stage actor, television actor, movie actor, etc, where you can see him act). In any case, throughout the rest of this very article, he is ALWAYS described as a voice actor, not just an actor. His career does not include any non-voice acting acting. A brief look at the sources finds that everyone calls him a voice actor, not an actor in general. As such, I've changed the opening sentence to reflect this, and also removed "actor" from his infobox, leaving voice actor as the main occupation. If anyone would like to revert, please explain why here, and provide sources, because I didn't see any (in my admittedly brief search). Fieari (talk) 01:12, 21 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The term public figure needs to be deleted from his occupation section, because public figure isn’t even an occupation and therefore it need to be removed right away. But he isn’t know for being a public figure. 50.214.136.117 (talk) 17:38, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Roles in Super Mario Party Jamboree

[edit]

The game confirms that it doesn't feature reused voice clips from Charles as Mario, Luigi, Wario and even Waluigi. The Japanese website confirms it and even Kevin Afghani's Wikipedia page. Can anyone of you guys fix that, please? 181.160.125.32 (talk) 23:31, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
