In Japan too?

[edit]

Is Martinet's voice work used in the original Japanese versions of the Nintendo games, or just in the English ones? What of other languages? -- J44xm 20:24, August 4, 2005 (UTC)

From what I can tell, he's Mario globablly. I can guarantee Japan, at any rate: a pre-release video of Mario & Luigi, taken (I think) from a Japanese website (or at least having the Japanese logo) had several voiceclips acted by Martinet's voice. --Shadow Hog 20:50, 4 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I thought so. Thanks for the info. I'll add a not-too-specific blurb in the article. -- J44xm 01:03, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

Expansion?

[edit]

I've noticed that there is a marked difference between his official site and his wikipedia page. The wikipedia page seems to focus in on his Nintendo works while omitting a good number of his other performances. His website, on the other hand, puts Nintendo on equal footing with about a dozen other companies he has worked for at tradeshows. I figure the Wikipedia page should reflect that...

This article needs a better picture. It is not a flattering picture of him, and you can't see his face. --Bando26 (talk) 18:33, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not enough

[edit]

There's almost no information about Charles, the man. The article is too heavily reliant on Nintendo with not enough information about the man, himself. See Will Wright's article for an example of a good biography. Certainly someone has some information on Charles that hasn't got anything to do with Nintendo! 98.23.136.117 (talk) 08:13, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Public appearances

[edit]

First of, it kind of makes it sound like he's a member of royalty that rarely gets out. Second, it is far from an anywhere near complete list. Unless someone here objects to it, I'd rewrite it to just mention that he often tours with Nintendo events, is accessible to fans, etc. GameLegend (talk) 13:15, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Credits in SSB

[edit]

Charles Martinet is improperly credited as "Charles Martinee" in Super Smash Bros., wondering if this mistake appeared in other games as well. Either way, it should be noted when crediting him in said games. TedKennedyX (talk) 22:03, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It all says them right on his official website, of his live action roles and voice roles in his career. 2600:1000:B016:CCC7:C47:FC6A:B1F4:838E (talk) 14:27, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm glad some primary source information is out there. I'd still love to see some secondary source discussion of Martinet's work. It would be really great for our article if we had some interviews with him, putting into context which roles were notable and such, so to speak. Right now, our article barely mentions his live action career at all, which is a shame. ~Mable (chat) 14:34, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

But since I already know IMDb doesn't count as a source. But the site itself shows his live action roles as well. 2600:1000:B02D:98E7:4827:36C5:D69B:6EEC (talk) 15:15, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing to really say about these live action roles. We don't know how they relate to his work for Nintendo, and no reliable sources ever really mentioned them as far as I know. It seems really interesting to me, though, so I'm sad that there isn't really much we can add to the article... ~Mable (chat) 15:45, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mertinet himself actually stated he auditioned for the role of Mario in 1990, not 1994/1995. In the links here: http://www.realclearlife.com/technology/charles-martinet-voice-behind-nintendos-mario/, shows and talks about when he auditioned for the role, it says 1990. If someone can please fix that info in his "Career" section from 1994 to 1990, the part were it says "Working for Nintendo since 1994" fix to as "Working for Nintendo since 1990" and in the Info above too as well. He also stated it in an interview that can be see on YouTube here:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jcdIqTFgWRA, he stated in the video that he crashed the audition in 1990. 2600:1000:B03A:57E3:6402:806A:82DE:C0A2 (talk) 22:24, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is there by any cane if anyone can delete his "Known for" and "Notable works" info from the infobox? Because it's a little unnecessary to have info of a reminder in the infobox on what he's known for throughout his career. 97.33.64.81 (talk) 04:35, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: In this case, the listing is not excessive, and these characteristics are indeed important from an "at a glance" informative aspect. The infobox is basically a summary of the key aspects of the article, and IMHO in it's current form there's no reason to remove anything. In his Early life section, the period is accidentally in front of the “citation needed” tag, were it needs to be in front of it. It is at the end of the sentence we’re it says chapter-by-chapter. If your confused on what I mean, here’s how it should look for example: chapter-by-chapter"[citation needed]. to chapter-by-chapter".[citation needed]

Hi, I’ve recently noticed that his birthdate was removed because it needed a reliable source. I wanted to help out with this and I did some research to find a reliable source for his birth and place, the only source I found was this: https://latam.ign.com/charles-martinet. I’m not sure if someone tried to add this in before, but this was the best one I could find. On Behindthevoiceactors.com here:https://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/Charles-Martinet/, it also shows his date of birth and place, but it doesn’t show his year of birth on when he was born. So unfortunately I don’t officially know if these both count as reliable sources. If you think wrong about these links, you can respond here and let me know. 173.13.73.146 (talk) 21:17, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Hello IP, and welcome to Wikipedia! Reviewing the page history and this talk page it is indeed clear that there has been some contention over the inclusion of a date of birth. The reason for this is because he is currently still alive, and Wikipedia has very stringent policies on how we source information for such people, as what Wikipedia says can directly affect their life.
In regards to IGN, according to WP:RSP (a page that documents community consensus regarding certain sources and their reliability), it would appear that IGN is generally a reliable source. However, the fact that there is no information on who made the page, when the page was made or last updated, and the presence of a very clear formatting error with that <p> gives me pause to want to use it.
In regards to BehindTheVoiceActors, while their doesn't seem to be a formal consensus on any sort of reliability, a review of the discussion archive shows it's generally reliable in regards to the attribution of VA's to their roles with characters. Thus, I'm not confident that it is reliable enough to - on it's own - prove the date of birth of such a notable individual. The fact it does not include the birth year notwithstanding.
For my reasons above, I have marked this request as not done. Another editor casually browsing this talk page may, at their discretion, overturn my decision and perform it if they feel my analysis is incorrect for any reason.
Thank you for your request, as I appreciate you attempting to help flesh out the information we have! Please do not let this discourage you, and if you have any questions or concerns feel free to raise them at my talk page. Cheers! —Sirdog (talk) 21:45, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to replace the current photo on the article with this one here. The photo currently on article of him poorly portrays his appearance, as can be infered by recent panels including him[1], as well as photos from his Twitter, and more often, Instagram[2][3].

While the photo I suggested above (again, here) is not perfectly reflective of his current appearance, it is significantly closer than any previous photo used, and especially the one being used right now. ArtVDiaries (talk) 02:53, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
