Haida Nation name
[edit]How the Haida Nation came to know that there was a seamount and to give it a name would be most interesting to know. Were they carrying out soundings perhaps?--Wetman (talk) 19:22, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know. I couldn't find any infomation how they knew about the seamount or why they gave it a name. When it has a volcanic island perhaps? Black Tusk (talk) 19:52, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- What do you mean "what is the other position of this controversy?"? The origin section mentions more than one suggestion: mantle plume and ridge. Black Tusk (talk) 22:02, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Please overlook my dim confusion! --Wetman (talk) 03:33, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Explain yourself. I don't see any confusion. Yet another: "depleted in what?" It's already explained: in the Earth's mantle. Black Tusk (talk) 03:41, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Book reference
[edit]I was unsure from your reference to "Faure (2001)" what you intended (as I have little knowledge of this subject). Did you mean this? If so it would be better to cite it in full:
Gunter Faure (2001). Origin of Igneous Rocks: The Isotopic Evidence. Berlin; New York: Springer. pp. 66–67. ISBN 3540677720.
Hope that helps and good luck with the GAN! --RexxS (talk) 01:42, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah. I originally had the book reference in full but another user changed it to its current version, so I kept it how it is. If it's better to give the full book reference I will change it back to how it was. Black Tusk (talk) 01:54, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Strontium Reference
[edit]I removed the reference to strontium being a "silvery white metallic element" since it implied that metallic strontium was actually present in the volcanic rocks. Dr. Morbius (talk) 21:38, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- But do lots of people know what strontium is? The strontium introduction was added to help explain what strontium looks like. Lead does not have an introduction because it's a commonly known metal. Black Tusk (talk) 22:03, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter if they don't know what strontium is. This article is about the Bowie Seamount. If they want to learn about strontium they can click the link. If you are going to try to explain every term used in the article then it will become bloated and it will make the article harder to read. Dr. Morbius (talk) 20:49, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not a dictonary. See WP:NOT. And yes it does matter what strontium is because it's part of the Bowie Seamount structure. Black Tusk (talk) 22:38, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Pics
[edit]All of the pictures appear to be renders of a vaguely mountain shaped terrain map, all in blue.
Maybe some pictures of the rich ecosystem would be good. A blue featureless bump does not really add much to the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.234.123.137 (talk) 02:11, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, but there don't seem to be many freely available images to use. I checked the www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca site and it does have numerous images and some videos for anyone interested. More worryingly, one of the main references, http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/oceans/mpa/bowie/reports/biologicalobs2003.pdf no longer appears to be available on the site, and I can't find it in the Internet Archive. If anyone has time to help out, here are some links to the site that are live today:

- I suspect we may need to re-source some of the article using what is available today, unless the 2003 report from Neil McDaniel et al can be found again. --RexxS (talk) 13:29, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
