1. Wiki header should be changed to " Belagavi" and article informatio. should contain the unofficial name or old name Belagaum inside the article . It seems to be the other way round. 2. More edit requests will follow once the first one is rectified. 2601:40B:8402:4920:992A:7765:5EFB:E6BE (talk) 14:19, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

Requested move 12 March 2023
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved. Consensus is that Belgaum is still the WP:COMMONNAME at this time. (non-admin closure) ModernDayTrilobite (talk • contribs) 19:14, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
Belgaum → Belagavi – official name was changed in 2014, and Majority of the Reliable sources published after that are using the "Belagavi" so as per WP:NAMECHANGES the article is eligible to rename as "Belagavi" , Sources which are using "Belagavi" : The Hindu, The Times of India, The Indian Express, Deccan Herald, Mint (newspaper), Asian News International, Hindustan Times, Free Press Journal etc ... . ಹುಲಿ🐯 talk 20:22, 12 March 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. - Oppose Wikipedia is a world-wide encyclopedia, and the WP:Commonname is determined by what English speakers, the world over, most readily recognise. Local media do not reflect this world-wide situation, as most of their readership readily knows both names, Although only a very crude measure a Google search for Belguam gives 66.3 million hits, whereas Belgavi gives just 12 million - Arjayay (talk) 20:43, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
- comment another reason to support move as per WP:COMMONNAME : quality encyclopedias ;Britannica :- https://www.britannica.com/place/Belagavi ಹುಲಿ🐯 talk 21:35, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
- Support based on Google News search results, it seems clear that Belagavi is now the common name. Walt Yoder (talk) 03:21, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose per Arjayay. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:41, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Comment. As was the case at the time of the last move request 5 years ago, in Worldwide Google Trends, and for what it's worth, in India and in Karnataka, Belgaum still outpaces Belagavi. Dekimasuよ! 04:24, 21 March 2023 (UTC)

Needs change of city name to Belagavi
[edit]The name of the city has been officially changed as Belagavi[1] on 1st November 2014 by Government of Karnataka, with approval of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Djsourabh.bwd (talk) 17:37, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- Look at the section immediately above this one - there was a requested move discussion about this, which failed. MrOllie (talk) 17:38, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- If not, change the name of this page Djsourabh.bwd (talk) 17:42, 20 April 2023 (UTC)

Change of title from Belgaum to Belagavi.
[edit]Majority of the English speakers use the name Belagavi in their conversations. It is now time to change the title of this page from Belgaum to Belagavi. 2409:40F2:1007:3A71:98F:9C80:3DA4:EA2B (talk) 08:56, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

Article name must be changed to Belagavi.
[edit]On 1st November 2014, names of 12 Karnataka cities changed. Belgaum was changed as Belagavi. Then union home minister Rajnath Singh gave his approval to the proposal of the Karnataka government made on October 27, 2006 to change the names of the 12 towns and cities in consonance with their pronunciation in Kannada language. <ref>url=https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/karnataka-belgaum-mysore-names-of-12-cities-changed-kannada-223614-2014-10-17<ref> Djsourabh.bwd (talk) 09:06, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- We obviously know that, since the article clearly states "Belgaum also Belgaon and officially known as Belagavi".
As this is the English Wikipedia, we use the Common name in English, not the Official name, or the name in Kannada. If the common name in English eventually changes, we will change our article title, as we did with Mumbai. However Bangalore was changed to Bengaluru in 2006, and the continued use of Bangalore for our article title has passed 14 move discussions. - Arjayay (talk) 10:30, 5 June 2024 (UTC)- Its not true. You have a misconception. Belagavi is the only common name. From city to district administration every official government website uses Belagavi.
- Apart from that all national level medias use the common name Belagavi. For your reference :
