Suggestion for the change of the article title
[edit]Hi all, "Anadolu High School" is a proper name; therefore, the title of article should be changed to Anadolu High School from Anatolian High School. 85.97.93.11 (talk) 21:03, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

Anatolian High School → Anadolu High School – "Anadolu High School" is a proper name; therefore, the title of the article should be changed to Anadolu High School from Anatolian High School. Official name is Anadolu, which is provided in the following link. 85.97.93.11 (talk) 21:20, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose – This is the English Wikipedia, and we speak and read English. We can't read "Anadolu". It is impossible for us to comprehend such an absurd word. We use the words we can understand, per WP:ENGLISH. If you've an issue with the English language, please go to the Wikipedia that is provided for Turkish speakers. - Support - First of all, RGloucester, your manner seems to be harsh and unreasonable. So what about changing that university's name: Anadolu University, is it absurd? When you receive a diploma from Anadolu University, the certificate writes "Anadolu University" because it's a proper name, not a geographical name on its own. Another sample is Boğaziçi University. Boğaziçi means Bosphorus, but this organisation uses Boğaziçi instead of Bosphorus on its certificates. Why? Because it's a proper name, not a geographical place on its own. Anadolu isn't a place name for these schools as well, but it is just used as a proper name formally. It is also used and preferred this way in CV's and official documents. The term Anatolian High School is thought to be wrong by professionals as well whereas Anatolian High School is used by amateur people.. Let me give some notable examples:
- - TeliaSonera Anadolu High School, Van: http://www.teliasonera.com/en/newsroom/news/2012/-teliasonera-anadolu-high-school-opens-in-van-eastern-turkey/
- - Kadıköy Anadolu High School, Istanbul: http://www.biletix.com/mekan/IT/ISTANBUL/en
- - Üsküdar Anadolu High School, Istanbul: http://wikimapia.org/8904377/%C3%9Csk%C3%BCdar-Anadolu-High-School
- - Bahçeşehir Atatürk Anadolu High School: http://wikimapia.org/12120799/Bah%C3%A7e%C5%9Fehir-Atat%C3%BCrk-Anadolu-High-School
- In the following page: it's said that people should write "ABC Anadolu High School" while writing their CV in English because it's a private (proper) name. It's also one of the criteria in writing CV's. İngilizce CV Nasıl Yazılır (How to write CV in English) http://blog.radikal.com.tr/egitim/ingilizce-cv-hazirlamada-puf-noktalari-87343
- Check a CV of an academician: http://w3.gazi.edu.tr/~alpaslan/cv.htm and Search for "Foundation of Ankara Atatürk Anadolu High School" and "Society of Ankara Atatürk Anadolu High School".
- Darüşşafaka International MUN Conference, on the list search for "Kadıköy Anadolu High School" in the following page: http://www.dsmun.org/#!student-officers/c1xvr
- Anyway, officially and professionally it is always used to be "Anadolu High School" in English. On the other hand, "Anatolian High School" is thought to be amateurish, not English. 141.196.194.225 (talk) 22:03, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- In the following academical article published on TUBITAK (web), it is also used to be "Anadolu High School". If it is absurd, how is this article published on TUBITAK? Check the abstract for "Ankara Çankaya Milli Piyango Anadolu High School": http://dergipark.ulakbim.gov.tr/gefad/article/download/5000078383/5000072606
- Quoted from another article published on scientific journal: "the tests aiming to assess the same knowledge and skills about energy subject were applied to 30 high school students at 10th grade in an Anadolu High School in Rize city." (page 2, http://www.nef.balikesir.edu.tr/~dergi/makaleler/yayinda/8/EFMED_FZE135.pdf ) 141.196.194.225 (talk) 22:36, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- The sources cited in the article use "Anatolian high school", and I'm fairly certain that this IP is a sock. RGloucester — ☎ 18:46, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose - first of all, to RGloucester, I suggest you should be a bit less aggressive and assume good faith a little more. It is clearly not "impossible for us to comprehend such an absurd word" as Anadolu - it is written in Latin script, after all, much like many other articles with foreign derived names, for example Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle. WP:UE requires us to go with what is written in English reliable sources, not necessarily to anglicise and translate into English every name that crosses our desks. Also, your accusation that this IP is a sock has no evidence attached, and as far as I can tell has no merit in the argument. However, having said all that, I do agree with you in opposing th move, because it appears that English sources do predominantly use the term "Anatolian High School".[1][2] Thanks — Amakuru (talk) 10:25, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
