Written as an advertisement
[edit]The entire article is an advertisement. Needs written to follow WP standards or probably should be deleted until it can be properly listed.Woods01 (talk) 04:48, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. It's definitely written as an advertisement. DoggerDan24 (talk) 17:30, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
It's GMAC with a new name but its the same company. As such, I've reverted back to the original redirect. One company should have one article about it. -- Whpq (talk) 17:40, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- It's a wholly-owned subsidiary, not "the same company." As such, it should NOT be reverted back to the original redirect. I agree with 207.179.226.195 (below). Furthermore, tucking it under GMAC, which has many other subsidiaries, will bury them when they are valid companies in their own right. More to the point, they are distinctly separate with respect to location, personnel, finances, and tax structure i.e. totally separate. The only remaining ties they have with GMAC is that the latter provides support functions to Ally. DoggerDan24 (talk) 17:29, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
I agree this is written like an advertisement. However, GMAC and Ally are significantly different in the American and Canadian consumer markets. GMAC primarily loans to dealerships and vehicle loans to consumers. Ally operates as a traditional online bank. I see it more as two divisions within one company. See Hollister Co. and Abercrombie & Fitch for other examples. 207.179.226.195 (talk) 18:38, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
Ok, it no longer sounds like an advertisement. Can we take off the banner? Scott.medling (talk) 22:19, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
Bailout Issues
[edit]This bank was bailed out three seperate times. There was an excellent piece about this on a public radio podcast (planet money?). It seems that this should be at least mentioned if not a whole section of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.225.193.28 (talk) 21:02, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
pick a topic
[edit]Some parts of this article suggest the topic is Ally, which used to be called GMAC. Other parts of the article suggest GMAC still exists. Apparently people are not sure which is which and what they are called. does GMAC still exist? if GMAC still exists, it is probably NOT a division of Ally. Therefore, it does not make sense to make GMAC a subtopic of this page. If Ally and GMAC are separate divisions of the same company, show some evidence of this, and maybe GMAC should keep it's separate page, with an appropriate link and explanation. also, it's possible to keep a page for a defunct company. right? why can't the GMAC page (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Gmac) continue to describe GMAC? it was never a bank holding company, but now it is. it is no longer owned by General Motors, either. they changed their name, headquarters, operations centers, business plan, and investment sectors. GMAC morphed into Ally, but they are not synonyms. --kipito (talk) 21:33, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
On the Ally homepage (ally.com), there is a link at the bottom for GMAC Mortgage which sends you to a new webpage for GMAC Mortgage (gmacmortgage.com). This suggests that some part of GMAC is still GMAC. However, I agree that it is confusing, and should be remedied. musicalmeg20 (talk) 07:59, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Television advertisements
[edit]I have been seeing this bank advertised on TV. They say they have no branches therefore great rates. I think this article needs to be revised substantially to provide the truth, whatever that is. It certainly should not be an advertisement; it should provide the facts people need to decide whether to be a customer. I am interested in getting unbiased information about fees and services.
