Let's get things kicked off

[edit]

What we need:

  • An image for the portal, I was thinking of a guitar image, but like a cartoon like picture of a guitar.
  • Categories... this is the long and tedious part but must be done. I'd recommend a subcategory for each genre, (See List of rock genres what's everyone else think? Also we need categories for the things you can do section, a category of rock stubs that need expanding etc...

I'm sure there's plenty of other stuff we need too, but in my mind, those two seem the most urgent.Qeee1 23:34, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For the image of the portal, I think a guitar image will be nice, but not cartoon. Maybe a real one but first we need to get rid of the round, orange headings
As for categories, genres is a great idea and. Also, we should have info on each instrument, such as guitar/drums, etc.
As of now, all rock and roll portal discussion takes place here. Also as of now, Portal:Rock and Roll is officially established. YAY!!!Osbus 01:46, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I like the idea of a real guitar picture. Maybe a Stratocaster, those are pretty emblematic.
Categorizing by genres is a good idea, but it might also be nice to categorize by era. WoodenTaco 17:06, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
yeah...Jimi Hendrix and such have used stratocasters so that's a good idea. But categorizing by era...that's a bit narrowOsbus 03:39, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i would make sense to change the titel of the page to Rock (music). unless the idea is too have a page about the earlier forms of rock music then the titel classic rock would be better. ..crowscream..

Deaths

[edit]

How about adding a rock 'n' roll deaths section as well as the births one?James Barlow 23:24, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use image

[edit]

I removed the images in the featured band/musician and selected picture sections, as they are a violation of Wikipedia's fair use policy. Please remember that fair use images can only be used in the article main spaces (the main page though is an exception)--TBC (aka Tree Biting Conspiracy) 12:18, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rock and Roll Birthdays

[edit]

Since no one has updated the birthdays section for almost three months I'm going to delete it.

[edit]

maybe there should actually be a picture for the selected picture section instead of just a description. 65.96.41.169 20:20, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Default portal image

[edit]

Currently, there are two different portal images, depending on how the portal template is called. Which one would people prefer? I'm not watching this page, so it would be great if you could comment at Template talk:Portal#Case duplicates. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 17:43, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization according to live-line-up

[edit]

What do you think about introducing an additional new categorization according to the typical live instrumentation for the bands.

Here are a few examples:

etc.

There would have to be rules so that each band is classified according to their most typical (current) live-line-up in just one category.

Once all the bands are classified, in each category there would be a handful of bands with the same kind of cast.

These categories could be arranged hierarchically.

Portal:Rock and RollPortal:Rock and roll – (over redirect) For some reason this portal was missed when nearly all other portals were converted from Title Case to standard WP title capitalization; portal names should also match their subject article, which for this one is Rock and roll.
