Hi @Shadow. 547, you've reverted @AirshipJungleman29's redirect from a few days ago but not given a reason in your edit summary. Can I please ask for this now? Blue-Sonnet (talk) 22:00, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blue-Sonnet, I note they have again used references that do not verify the content, as I noted in my original edit summary. The whole thing seems like AI-generation. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 23:22, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, I've just tried the first two sections of the article in three different AI text detectors and they're all coming back as 100% AI-generated. Blue-Sonnet (talk) 23:30, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do we go back to ANI or wait for a response first? They've literally just come off a block and this is their first edit, which worries me a little - I want to AGF & this could just be a mistake, but I note they also originally created this article... I fixed the script but im tired so can u fix [4]
The fall of Nishapur was a significant blow to the Khwarazmian Empire, which eventually collapsed under the Mongol onslaught.[4] Shadow. 547 (talk) 10:40, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Shadow. 547, thank you for responding. I'm not quite sure what you're asking me to do, do you want me to find you a reference for #4? I usually stick to grammar & spelling, I've not really worked on referencing yet.
@AirshipJungleman29 I'm thinking maybe this should go into draft space until it's fixed, then go to AFC to check that it's ready to go live again? What do you think? Blue-Sonnet (talk) 16:51, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'll draftify it Blue-Sonnet. Shadow. 547 is welcome to submit it to AfC it they feel it meets standards. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 17:27, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Hi @Shadow. 547, I'm thinking that you probably do need to start from scratch since the AI has basically hallucinated almost everything here. Since you asked me to look at reference #4 I've checked out the rest as well, but like AirshipJungleman29 said they all appear to be wrong - this is why they redirected from this article after they'd looked themselves.

References

  • Reference #1 is talking about religion and belief, you/the AI have said that it gives proof of the empire's territory.
  • Reference #2 is supposed to be about the empire weakening on page 143, but only the first 111 pages are online - I note that the book talks about that historical period in pages 17-47, but page 143 is in the Dictionary section of the book. I'm almost certain it's wrong since none of the other references are right, but I can't check since I don't have the book.
  • Reference #3 discusses the Battle of Badger Mouth in 1211, which took place a full decade before this one.
  • Reference 4 isn't online so I can't check it. Same conclusion as #2 re. accuracy.
  • Reference #5 should confirm that Nishapur is a centre of commerce, but that page is discussing ancient Muslim scholars.

Next steps

Since the AI has made up every single reference we can't trust anything else it's said - with this in mind I'm loathe to try to find references to back up something that might not be right in the first place... I'm guessing that you didn't check the references before submitting the article or when they were challenged. I find it's best to double-check if someone is questioning what you've done - they might be wrong, or you might be, but the D in BRD is a good way to check.

It's admirable that you care enough about history to try to write an article, so I'm sure you care that people everyone can get accurate information to help them learn about Mongol history! It takes longer to write the articles ourselves, but this way we know that we're giving readers the right information to learn from.

If you do rewrite or create a new article I'll be happy to help if I can! Some of these books could be a good jumping-off point for sources, at least after you've looked into the referencing guidelines & help essays?

For now I'm going to stop as I've already spent a good couple of hours on this, but I definitely think you're better off scrapping & starting afresh. Blue-Sonnet (talk) 01:07, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
