Mingming Yin (Chinese: 殷明明; Known as Stephanie Yin; born 1990) is a Professional Go Player. She currently serves as the Vice President of the American Go Association and the founder and President of the New York Institute of Go.[1](NYIG), Yin is known for her contributions to promoting Go in North America, particularly through educational programs and her role as a representative in high-profile international Go events[2]

Early Life and Education

Stephanie Yin was born in China and began studying Go at a young age. She became a professional Go player[3]in 2007, certified by the Chinese Weiqi Association. In 2010, she moved to the United States to study at Fordham University, where she earned a degree in Business Administration. Her academic background provided her with skills that later helped her in establishing and managing Go education programs.

Career

After completing her studies, Yin initially worked in the finance industry. However, her dedication to promoting Go led her to found the New York Institute of Go (NYIG).

Yin has also been active as a commentator for international Go events[4]. She gained recognition for her role as the English-language commentator for the 2017 Future of Go Summit match between world champion Ke Jie and the Google Deepmind AlphaGo, bringing Go to a global audience.

Contributions to the Go Community

Stephanie Yin has held leadership positions within the American Go Association (AGA), serving as its Vice President of Development. Her efforts have been focused on promoting Go in the United States, especially among younger players, and expanding the reach of Go education. In addition to her leadership roles, Yin has organized numerous regional and national tournaments, including the New York State Championships[5][6], New York Go Summit[7]. Yin also led the 7th Annual World College Go Friendship Tournament with its initial stop[8] in New York featuring a match between a New York team[9]—comprising students from MIT, Princeton, Columbia University, and other Ivy League schools[10]—and a team from China.
