Controversies

ICFAI University has been involved in legal disputes and regulatory challenges over the years.

In 2012, the ICFAI campus in Tripura was closed indefinitely following an investigation into certain allegations against the institution.[21]

A notable dispute occurred in 2008 between ICFAI and the CFA Institute regarding the blocking of the CFA designation in India. The CFA Institute filed a case, claiming that ICFAI infringed on its intellectual property rights. The issue was resolved in favor of ICFAI when a U.S. court vacated a default judgment against the university.[22]

In 2008, some ICFAI students were left uncertain after receiving notices regarding the potential cancellation of their exams, triggered by disputes over the recognition of certain programs. This caused confusion among students.[23]

The institution also faced scrutiny over its certification process in 2007 when disagreements arose about the legitimacy of its examination protocols. Despite the controversy, ICFAI continued with its examination schedule and later sought approval from relevant regulatory bodies.[24]

These incidents reflect a period of legal and operational challenges for ICFAI University, but the institution has continued to operate and adapt to regulatory requirements.
