Rereleased/Remastered Games
[edit]A number of the games on this list have had re-releases, remasters, or been in anthologies. For example:
- The .hack Games were re-released on PS4 as .hack//G.U. Last Recode, as mentioned on the .hack//G.U. page. In fact, those games being combined is awkward, as the 4th one (Vol. 4//Reconnection) was only in the PS4 re-release.
- God of War (original) and God of War II have been re-released in God of War Collection.
Frustratingly, there is a List of video game remakes and remastered ports, but by it's nature it's a massive manual list that is hard to keep complete - for example, .hack G.U. Last Recode isn't on there.
There's a weird drift to this as well. If a game is re-released completely unchanged and marketed as a PS2 exclusive (think the PS2 classics on PS3/PS4), is it PlayStation2 only?
What is the purpose of this list:
- Games originally released on PS2 only within that generation? This is useful in terms of platform exclusivity, which is often what people think of PS2-only.
- Games only released on PS2, ever? This is valuable for collectors, and as titled is closer to being strictly accurate - but there are a number of games on the list that have been re-released.
If I was asked for a useful solution: Make the category 'Games originally released exclusively on PS2' and refer to the List of video game remakes and remastered ports for re-release info. --Shawngmc (talk) 04:48, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
Re: proposed merge with parent category
[edit]Due to the lack of concensus in the discussion here: [1], and several users feeling that all-inclusion would be preferable, and indeed in line with WP:SUBCAT ("When an article is put into a subcategory based on an attribute that is not the first thing most people would think of to categorise it, it should be left in the parent category as well"), I will begin including all games in this sub-category in the parent category too, and also add any relevant titles I notice along the way to this sub-cat also. If anyone has any reason for objecting, please note here or on my talk page. Thanks, Miremare 18:51, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
